Default weird question?

does anybody know why hatchback's have rear window wipers and saloon's dont. I know it's a weird question but it came up in conversation earlier and now its really bugging me?

Pug 306 saloons have them.
No idea why though

hatchbacks have rear wipers as when its wet the spray rises up from the rd onto the glass, where as a saloon it just hits the rear of the vehicle and not the glass
