BMW 3 series open door, window drops .... how?
As most of the folk on here seem to be into BMW's.... Does anyone know what a 2dr 3 series uses to make the window drop when the door opens and close back up when it's shut? I want to make my 6 series do the same as the doors close nicer when the window is 1/2" down...

Its not a switch as such in the handle, its a hall effect sensor.
That pases the information to the ZKE or central body electrics ECU. On later cars there is no ZKE as such but the functions are carried over into other control units, on a MINI its called the BC1 for example.
It wouldnt be impossible to retro fit, but it wouldn't be easy.

Just done a bit of googling and found this. It appears the micro switch is in the door latch. http://home.earthlink.net/~frankie66...croswitch.html

I will look out a e36 chasis number 2 moro morning at work & print of the door wiring diagram & fax it to you..If the window dosent drop on all coupes its a fault in the door lock common on e46 coupes we replace the locks but not sure if its still controled by the basic module or bc1..I will look into it & get back to you

i think all newish bmws can do it.
Also when you lock the car, you press the bmw logo. If any windows are open at whatever length, when you keep it held down for about three seconds and keep holding it down they all go back up until you let go.
Same principle with opening it. You hold the open button down and they open to as much as you want them to until you let go

Ive always wondered how this system works. Does anyone have a video of the system running/operating - ive never seen it work?
When the door is opened to the windows "drop" down slightly by use of the motors or do they slide down via some other mechanism? My guessing is they operate very quickly, unless there is a delay in how quickly you can open the door?
Cheers

they open to stop the seal being air tight
so when you close the door you don't get your ears popping with the sudden increase in pressure because there is space for the air to escape
on some cars it's also there to make the door easier to close rather than having to thump it shut
just in case anyone was wondering why there was a need for this feature on some cars

as said it is a switch in the door catch, as when door is closed it pushes the switch in causing the window to go up, and when opening the door the allows the glass to drop uner the seal.. if u want a pic i can get one in the morning?
