personal crusade of mine, cannot help myself when I see these threads must try harder.

we will have to agree to disagree

In my opinion the ultimate RS500 is the car that won the World touring Car Championship - the highest accolade there was - hand assembled by race engineers in Switzerland in clinical like conditions from the best components money could buy -and not a load of end of line 3drs converted in some sheds in England, having first sat for many months in open compounds throughout the whole of winter and spring of 1986/87 (Its funny how some RS500 owners say "never seen rain")

I would still have one though , but cannot justify to myself the premium they now command over a 3dr, I have better things to spend my play money on.

You could today gather up all the required parts and build a car to RS500 specification, and have it certified by the FIA as an RS500.

500 cars were the minimum number required, not the maximum.

Everyone else is just purely applying their own personal interpretation, and that includes the RSOC and its members.

If Ford had only needed to build 5 road cars in order to compete then thats all Ford would have done to meet the homologation rules.

Ford happily used many of the RS500 touring cars in its advertising at the time, which also endorses such cars as RS500s and would over ride any restrictions placed by the RS owners club which is independant of Ford, not affiliated to Ford, or run or controlled by Ford in any way.
I thought you would reply

Its a matter of opinion

I still say you cant have more than 500 rs 500"s

The race cars are not built to EXACT specs of the road cars ,, they are higher spec

Plus ,,there are only 500 chassie numbers registered as rs500

Im not saying your totaly wrong , im just saying that IMO it has to carry one of the 500 chassie numbers allocated by FORD , to be a REAL 500 , not a built from parts 500 ,,

This is in itself irrelevant tho as the gen 500 touring cars are classed as 500"s by everyone so it doesnt realy matter , plus i would love to own the Tim harvey Labbatts car

Does anyone know whether this car actually sold?
Has anyone on here actually viewed the car?
Just got my christmas bonus to bolster my funds. Could make an offer of 35k for both, if both are still for sale?

now tbh its no a perfect car.thats not saying its shit at all but for 45k i would want perfect myself!
my mate offered him that months back! but th bloke has fuckd himself now as my mate has bought something else with he cash.shame really as tht 40k wont get offered by that many people

but tbh i said to my mate if it was me i'd go and buy a minter without a plate like that and something big power too

thats just what i was thinking
the car may be worth around 25k
if the plate is worth 20k you have your price tag

Default internet

the biggest problem with the internet. people see cars advertised for a price, and them think therefore their car is worth the same.

just because a car is advertised at a price dont mean its worth that, they rarley sell for the full price, most dont sell at all. when your looking at cars with history/prestige.

I have known the car since the guy bought it. He paid more than £8K for the plate back in 1990 when it was put on the car.

I was only 16 or 17 back then too and used to droool over it whenever I saw it out on the road which was rare!!!

maybe but i really dont see many paying that much.it can only really go on an rs500. but tbh the person that will pay that is just too well off.my mate is too much of a moonstone fan and thats why he wanted it.but the owner is a fool for turning it down.

this car belongs to a friend of mine and having seen it and been in it i would pay 25k for the car i could not justify 20k for the plate but thats what its been valued at he is considering seperating them . unfortunatly the fella who owns it has a terminal illness and needs the money to provide for his wife and children after his death . i have the means to buy this car but i cant because i would not be able to leave it alone ! the car needs to be left as is and will prob be worth more in the future it is a bit of motorsport history !

hello tom,how you doing.didnt know you knew him.do you know why he turned down the 40k he was offered then?im not being funny but if you need that sort of cash and thats been offered, which tbh is a huge amount and not going to be offered by too many people you would think he would take it.
i know the car is a very good example and very clean(few minor bits but lets be honest what hasnt) and my mate who offered the cash wouldve kept her the way ford intended

I wouldnt pay that much, no way! Maybe someone will though, who knows. In fact i would never pay £25k for one when you could get one of the best escos' around the same money. But obviously thats becuase i prefer the escos over the 500. I suppose RS500 fans would say the opposite.

I personally wouldnt be able to justify paying over double for an RS500 over a 3 door. The extra money you pay is not 'worth it' to me when a 3 door looks the same (or very similar), and more often than not most 3 doors and 500's have similar power anyway.

Ok its a piece of history and all that, but to ME there just not worth twice the price of a 3 door. Obviously as regards value they ARE 'worth it' to RS500 fans as they do fetch the money so fair play.

i love the rs500 as well as the escort and if i had the money i would own the rs500.but they are getting too pricey for a good one for my cash flow
i personally am a bit of snob then.as i couldnt own a 3dr over the 500 for the reason of i know the 500 is a rarer and better car albiet very similar

and no im not a gucci wearer who only goes for the name

I think the top end cars under 25k miles are well worth 25+ but I don't understand why 50k +mile cars are going for 20k
A few years ago they were at 14 or 15 and that seemed about right, I would not pay 20k for an average condition 50k mile 500, looking at shows most of these cars need cosmetic work of some description or another and are far from mint.

If I can find a low miles moonstone 500 I will pay good money but I wouldn't even consider paying 20 grand for a higher mileage average one

I think personally, you are paying for the name and its history mainly. Ok obviously there are other changes but not that many that your going to see a major benefit from, and certainly not for over twice the price in my opinion.

To me its like paying £20k for a 328 or £10k for a 325. Very similar spec and performance but twice the price.

Still, if you can afford to get one over a 3 door, and have the money in the bank not doing anything anyway, then why not i suppose. Im sure neither will lose money.

Although, if i had money coming out of my ears, i still buy one.

I'm going to have to say if i had the money I would buy it in a shot. Look at house prices if someone wants it then they will pay what they can for it not what you would call the actual value of it
