By my calculations the landlord owes you £300 pounds then
The whole situation sounds like a nighmare to me. The main problem is that lack of repairs, lack of tenancy agreement etc doesn't allow you to withhold payment of rent. However, you landlord sounds like a right idiot and looks like he owes you money for now. I'd say move out ASAP and let the courts sort it all out
Maybe he was hoping that he'd make a quick buck off you without providing a tenancy agreement, gas certification or repairs. However, if that's the case then the law is suddenly on your side, as a tenancy does exist even tho there's no paperwork. Sounds like a nightmare

I can't help but feel my Darwin comment was lost on you.
If you post a thread on a public discussion board you can't expect all commentary following it to be positive. It wouldn't be much of a discussion board if we could only post when we agree
However....the legal aid comment was a genuine one. If you'd prefer to just blindly go on the advice of people you've never met that may or may not have any idea what they are talking about...then really I don't need to make my previous point again.

Despite numerous requests, we didnt receive our tenancy aggreement until the middle of October, by which point my circumstances were about to change due to me finding a job, because of which, both mine and my partners claim for Jobseekers finished. Now, I know we can claim for backdated benefit, and there is the possibilty that we may be able to get help with the rent due to only having 1 income,

Pesronaly I think you and your gf rented a house then decided it was hard to keep up with the payments and decided to give up work and try and get on the benefits system and told the land lord after you moved in

And YES - I have read the thread completely, and see both sides of the coin - but if I was your landlord, then you would of been out on your ears months ago

We were already on benefit, if you read the post you'd see that. As for work now, the agency I have been working for placed me in a company last week, today I was made temp-to-perm, and on 21st Dec I become full time with the company,
