what sort of times do people from here get?
all it is I had a heated disscusion with my mrs's dad the other day after watching an old top gear where JC does it in the jag at just under 10mins and he is now convinced that in his 360bhp 4x4 sapph he can do it in less than 7mins.
I couldnt argue properly as I wasnt sure what cars have done it what times, will be going round there later and need some ammo

The correct answer to "I can lap the ring in less than 7 minutes in a 360bhp 4x4 saph" is .......

No you can't.

Any other will involve swearing!

Sabine when she was 18 held the fastest lap record for a factory production car in a saphire cosworth.

in answer to your Mrs Dad, there is no way in hell he will do a lap in 7 mins in a 360bhp saph, and i bet hes never even driven it so he will be lucky to even get towards the low 9's IMO.

Mike Rainbird has covered near on a thousand laps and his car is spec'd almost perfectly for the Nurburgring, had aprox 500bhp when it was last recorded on a lap and did it in 8:07 (BTG) which is one hell of an achievement

My Dad's done his first 3 laps about a month ago. on his trackday prep'd R1. and with lots of traffic done a 9.10 i think.
But he didn't like the risk factor, he will only push if he feels safe and knows the track, and the Ring scared him.

He's a well experience short circuit rider.

Shorter taster film here

EDIt.

I dont think Hakkinen EVER took a F1 round (by which I mean the Road car or his single seater car) so not sure where the 7m11 came from.
