What kind of Spec from a cosworth 2 challenge an evo 8 mr400
No stir up here guys genuine opinions and advice wanted as much as i love the cossy full repect to the evo's
Just want to know from experience what kind of a spec especially from lets just say a 4x4 saph would be needed to really have eat up an evo 8 mr400. Not on the track but mainly for 0-60's or 1/4's
Am on about your daily, well average cossy setup thats out there. Nothing like your track or rally prepped ones (3+k boxes, antilag or the likes of 500+bhp engines etc...)
Will a well spec'd/set-mapped up stage 3 (on greens) stand a chance considering the delay in the gearchange (and thats if your syncro's anint knackerd ) or will it have to be grey's minimum
I know once you go pass 350bhp on a 4x4 your asking for it on the gearbox but if thats not an issue is it possible or is the evo just a better car?
Would love some input

Evo will eat a stage3 cossie......Especially FQ400..
FQ400 has alittle lag, BUT you just can't compare the two cars, one is years old now and the other has trick technology etc
If i was buying an Evo 8, i'd go for a MR320 and have it mapped..
FQ400 is still pricey and the 320-340mapped, will not be far way on performance..

Need a proper 400bhp+ imho, you would also need the proper £3K gearbox. My mates killed 5 box's in his 4x4 and thats running about 420-430bhp and he never launches it.
The EVO is a much better all round car though. Will have you on corners unless you spend alot on suspension. Will have you on brakes unless you spend lots on them aswell. Will have you off the line etc..etc..etc

staffi would've thought a well spec'd stage 3+ cossy would've blown or give any evo 8 prior to the mr400 a run. Am mainly on about standing starts or straight line runs...
I know around the track or twistie's evo will bum u
Am pretty amazed with this vid would've thought the evo would gain in and overtake on the bends but the cossy just about pulls away and the evo just can't take him
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6...7fdf89d1f5.htm
Nash know what you mean buddy will have to be a proper minimum 400bhp to give it a run but thats when things start getting rather expensive

My mates old 4x4 cossie ( 1year ago ) was 487bhp. t4 8 greens all the trimmings, and i thought this thing is a rocket, and it was because it destroyed my stg3 saff at the time, but he now has an evo 9 gt with a few good mods probably not that far from his old saffs power and its unbeleivable, i mean its really out of order, this thing is just not right, its like a roller coaster, i have been in loads of powerfull track cars ( chris doc`s fiesta, charlie shaws focus ect) but roys road car evo from point to point is to be fair fucken awsome, i cant comprehend how good it is, i havent been on the track with it yet but i can assure this fucker can perform

two different era's of technology
your not gona get a Cossie to match what you can get from a good EVO
I've owned a fair few of both and with the EVO, the way it delivers its performance, even a standard MR FQ340 will be off and gone before a big power Cossie has even got into its stride (before blowing up!).
But an EVO340 is gona cost you the best part of £20k, whereas you can make an old cossie go quite well for 1/4 of that, but its not gona be in the same league as an evo.
To put it in context the quickest Cossie I've had wouldnt have got close to the slowest EVO I've had. Love them both, but no point comparing them directly.

Either the slowest evo youv had is a real tool or the quickest cossie is a dumpling
Theres no denying how quick the evo`s are point to point but a quick cossie on a straight is a right good bit of 18/19 yr old kit

Having running an NMS stage 4 Escos and an Evo VIII for 12 months, both running 370 ish bhp.... it's no contest, the Evo wins hands down every time, in all departments.

just to add to that, as it sounds a bit anti cossie,, I reckon a good 4wd saphire, with some nice upgrades, is one of the best things you could get say for £5k pound for pound.
just wanted to make the point its not fair to compare an old Cossie to the latest stuff, its two different era's.
I'm lucky enough to have owned them both, plus various Subaru's, bmw M's etc so I've got a balanced view of how they compare.. heres some of them

I drive them on track so I'd say I have a fair idea.
Anyway, you only need to drive an EVO about half a mile to realise how much the game has moved on since the 80's.

Another thing with the Evo is, they can be tuned to 380bhp for less than 2k AND the standard gearbox will see 450bhp/430+ft.lb without any trouble..
I'd have another anyway...........

I was going to say , pull a plug lead of the cossie and let the tyres down and the evo may have a chance
Seriously tho ,,as said , you cant compare a 20 year old car ,that in its day and until 5 years ago was the best car money could buy , with a modern high performance jap car
They are just well 20 years appart its more than just flat out power with the modern car , its all about a whole package deal , somthing you didnt get with a saff cossie ,
Both great cars of there time , but the only good point in favour of the cossie is ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its a cossie , a true legend and will there ever be another car ever built that is still in such demand and still holding its own on a track like it ,,,,,,In a word ,,,,,,,,,,,,NO

Try the nearest comparison when the Evo V [the start of the better Evos IMO] came out in 1998 with 280bhp and AYC - there's only a few years difference then to make the comparison to.

id rather have my cossie then a evo tbh, the evo may be better but a cossie is a cossie
out of intrest a 400bhp saph cossie..and a 400 bhp evo 9..with same sort of torque, which would win in a strait line of erm 1/4 mile?? the saph is going to be 250kg lighter but the evo got all new technology..

Depends if you're meaning a 4wd cossie, or 2wd
And on the driver..
Take TIB off here for instance, he can launch his 3dr to 0-60 in under 4secs, 0-100 in under 8 AND does an 11sec quarter..

sad, but true!
had a blast in my mates Fq320 for a bit.
thing is though, i just find new cars un-exciting.. i mean, you can be pretty confident your actually gonna get where you wanna go
in an evo. without breaking it. where is the fun in that!??!! lol
seriously though, old cars do feel way more raw and exciting to drive... which really, is why i prefer them....
anyway.. back to it.. its always SEEMED to me that the is Such a world of difference out there in 'supposed' tuned car....
some just seem WAY better, and only claiming the same power
take SMIT on here for example.. his sig ONLY claiming 340 bhp...and yet can get in the THREEs to 60 thats seriously impressive IMO
as i dont think a 320 evo could get in the 3s???
And on the other side to that.. some cars boasting 380 -400 or whatever,
never get out of the 5 second to 60 bracket...
there just seem SUCH differences between set ups that its almost impossible to say!
400 bhp cossie for excitment and raw feel... an evo if you got the dosh and like a more refined drive lol

TBH not many Evo people bother with ¼ miles, they are more into timed sprints and 30 - 130mph events.
