What do u think is the best fwd hot hatch of all time
Was in the middle of a discussion today on what the best was for pace and all round fun,
my shout is the 1.6 205 gti but what do others think. However the clio 172 cup and 182 trophy were serious bits of kit.

none, they were all shite
well, from the list i can choose probably about 4, but fwd tended to be me 15 years ago and nothing new has ever really been tested
my boss had a tdi gold mk5 and that was damn quick in a straight line but the brakes were funny on corners, it felt very unsettled and the steering felt really dead
my mate had a fiat coupe for a while when they were new and it was quick for going across country even though i outpulled it in second from a rolling start (i was roling at trundle speeds and he booted it in first)
another guy i knew had a 306, it felt really quick, and then you realised it was just shit round corners as it couldn't carry any of it's speed through and it was just the matter of the gearings being realy realy close that made you think it was really quick (it was a diesel and constantly broke down)
my mate had a S2 and it was really nice and had just enough power to not make it impossible to drive and be reliable and tractable
i also had a few spins in a cherry turbo, and i must say, it had about 15 times the amount of power it should have put through it's wizened old chassis, it was real REALY quick in a straight line, but you throw in any sort of manouver, like turning of slowing down or accelerating and it was scary

Integra Type-R DC2 is the best FWD car i have ever driven, not stickly a Hot hatch though as its a Coupe.
Focus RS is a good car but a little flat as standard.
Clio Williams and 205 1.9GTi are stunning cars.

its got to be the 205 gti 1.9 never owned one or driven one, but just seems the best car when the "hot hatch" idea came about. I must also mention the golf GTI the first. but in the 80's the 1.9 gti was mental

Toss up between the Mk1 GTI and 205 1.9 GTI for me..
I voted Mk1 though. I loved mine soooo much, the handling was so predictable.
205 1.9 was a nippy little car when just tickling the throttle along.
The Racing Puma indeed does handle nicely and I wish they'd made one with 200+bhp as I'd have probably owned one.

S1 RST was a great motor looks wise but its got nowt on the Fezza Turbo in standard trim for handling or performance (yes I've driven both - a lot!!!)
Golf MK2 GTi 16v was a brilliant motor. However it aged worse than Betty Grable.
