a reasonable idea with a h pattern gearbox where it takes a second to change gear,but when using a sequential box i think its faster to use 1st and second.
I tried it with a H pattern dog box back to back and it was faster using both gears.
interesting result then martin,i would have said in theory time lost due to gear change and loss of acceleration untill back on full boost would have made it slower.i now need to work out why using 2 gears was faster.

mine does 56mph in 1st @ 7700 rpm, and i wish i had a shorter 1st,

the time lost on a gear change on a dog box is minimal, and worth it compared to 1st being too tall for launch like mine.

on road tyres, bog's at 7000, spins up @ 7200rpm, and no real in between.

so are you going to change the ratios?mine runs 3.214 / 1.925/1.302/1.00/0.752 = 49 82 121 158 210. goes really well in first and second,and the 50/50 torque split gives good traction.

Only if i have to rebuild the box again.

i was meant to have the highest 1st R+D do, but they f-cked up, and i didn't find out till after i rebuilt the box, and it was fitted.

i'm running,

215/40/17 tyres,
7700 rpm,
3.6 final, std step off, 3.6 diff's,
pumped up centre diff to 50nm,

R&D dog box, ratio's and speed @ 7700rpm

1st = 2.68 = 56.1mph, (2.98 is available = 50.4mph)
2nd = 1.89 = 79.6mph
3rd = 1.43 = 105.2mph
4th = 1.17 = 128.5mph
5th = 1.00 = 150.9 mph
6th = 0.82 = 183.5mph.

if you come i'll let you beat me
I would have thought that would be easy top end given your gearing (4.4:1 ?) but 0-60 and 100 yours should have it no sweat...

i have 3.6 in and a .809 top gear and rev limiter at 8200 work that out and i think 1st is 2.68? work that out
yeah i have changed the ratio for this and yeah first will be tall will do about 64 in first so if i get it off the line it should do good 0-60

and the back spoiler is coming off for it and there could be another suprise to help the areodynamics

I was under the impression that you were on 3.6 front and 4,4 rear, I'm sure I read that in P/Ford.

If that's not the case then I reckon you will have a hard time getting it off the line without hurting the clutch as the first gear is a bit tall, your .80 and the shape of the car should give better top end than mine although having said that I don't know the drag of that rear spoiler.

You could get 60 in first with your gearing but I have tried that before and it was slower than using second as well.
