MDF - Gloss White Paint? Vinyl?
12mm MDF, I need it to be a really perfect Gloss White finish. Can it be painted successfully? Or perhaps an adhesive coating, like Fablon?
I want a proper job!
Any ideas?

I have a good friend that is a proper painter and he has said he is happy to have a go, but I want to be sure that we can get a good finish.
I was wondering what they use on Gloss Kitchen Cupboard doors? They are MDF and have a high gloss finish sometimes.

All the cupboard doors i've seen are chipboard with a laminate. I've used MDF in the past for boxing-in pipe and painted it with normal primer and gloss or satinwood, but u never get an excellent finish because the surface isn't great to start with, it's a bit like painting cardboard. The other problem with it seems to be dust sort of settles on the boxing-in after a while and get's into the rough finish, and wont come off properly! Then it looks a bit of a state

dont have to gloss though before you paint as gloss is a bsterd to harden quickly

when i was in school i used a mdf primer before painting it with gloss because it kept soaking in, this was a fair few years ago though so maybe paint technology has moved on.

yes your mate proberly can do it christian
the key is to make sure any prep work is not done in the same rom as painting, and to make sure when painting it is in a complete dust free room.
remind him to knock up a bit of swedish putty for all the open edges, and its always a good idea to coat in an mdf sealer first ( just saves on a few coats of paint and it much thinner than pva glue )
and tag rag everything down between wet sanding and coating

You need to buy an mdf primer to start (unless you know what the correct mix is) if you don't use one, the paint will not stick and 'birdseye'.
I would then spray it if the finish has to be perfectly flat and smooth.

I have 2 flat panels to do, one is 2 metres long by 550 high, the other is 1 metre long by 550 high.
Whats involved? Does it just stick on? Or is it heated?
