Default Police!

They've got their knockers (one on their head usually- fnurr fnurr) but in the last few years (yes its probably an age thing!) I have noticed they are getting much less holier than thou in attitude!!

(ahem-someone I know) Got pulled at 0015 Friday morning, towing a jetski with 3 blown lights on the trailer, nearside indicator and both rear lights (In a Volvo 850 Estate so all lights were visible on the car anyway and I didn't known about 2 of them as they somehow blew on my way down from Scotland) and a "homemade" number plate.

I'd overtaken 2 lorries and noticed a car behind me fly past them as well, each time I was excellerating to about 80mph but then dropped down to 65-70ish on a normal dead straight empty single carriageway A road (fookin glad I wasn't in the Cossie - mainly because it hasn't got an engine at the moment )

Anyway, I was about to turn in to my home town after 385 miles in fekking strong winds when the blue lights came on!

Bugger I thought, 3 more points!

A few questions -

Is this your car/jetski/coat/wallet/hair etc, a PNC check to confirm it was the wifes car and a cheery 'you'll be surprised how many of these things are stolen at night' and I was on my way!

Well done to the Northants Police:

a) For a common sense approach to the speed limit late at night (not even a mention!!)
b) For checking that I wasn't in fact a theiving scumbag!!
c) Restoring my faith in the boys in blue!

you did very well to get away with that seeing as your speed limit on an mway is 60, and on a single carriageway is 50. so your went to 30mph above the speed limit.
unless you got coppers who didnt know that limits are less when towing

There were two of them in an unmarked car so I presume they were traffic and knew the rules.

(so my mate told me )

I thought you could do 70 on a Motorway and 60 on a single carriageway, provided the speed rating on the trailer tyres was sufficient? (Don't know this, just picked it up in passing!)

As you obviously aren't aware of the speed limits whilst towing, another rule for you to note.... Whilst towing - you are not allowed to go in the fast lane on a 3/4 lane dual carriageway or motorway to overtake.

Type of vehicle
mph (optional mph when you have a long way to go)

Cars towing caravans or trailers
(including car-derived vans and motorcycles)
30 (48)
50 (80)
60 (96)
60 (96)

Thats better!
