£1300 on a set of brakes, which to be honest, i don't really need, but they are there and i want them, and, more importantly, i can afford to get them, btu she would go absolult doolally twat and would actually seriously consider beating me about the head with whatever came to hand

she doesn't mind me spending money but it's been a bit "you always do what you want to do when you want to do it and i always have to wait for you to be ready if i want you to do something" etc etc normal womens grumbling as of late

don't want to piss her off anymore than i already have so if i did spend a big chunk of change on it i'd also have to find a way to get her something to make up for the fact that i've not gone shoping for stuff with her this week and she's got the grumps as it is

slim calipers, the ones i'm after, and direct fitment (i think) as well so no need to mess about with getting brackets and bells made up specifically

but going without sex, food, clean clothes, etc, might not be worth it

Please tell me it's not for that Sierra hearse you're driving!

The whole car isn't worth £1300! If you spend that on brakes for a piece of shit sierra that never sees a track, you've got to be out of your fucking mind!

Just buy them and say you got a great deal on them. Worst that'll happens is she'll throw a bit of a strop and you'll have to make do with a wank tonight.

Do what I do.

Stages
1 - Try to justify buying it to yourself.
2 - Realise that you dont need it, and you shouldnt buy it
3 - Sleep on it
4 - Wake up KNOWING that you really dont need it
5 - Have a lovely chat to the missus, and realise that she isnt always wrong
6 - sleep on it again
7 - still realise that you dont need it
8- Buy it
9 - Regret it
10 - Never tell the wife, and just in case she finds out, plant a story that gives her a completely false impression of how much it costs

Hope this helps

it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

You should never tell the mrs exactly everything, you have no life of your own.

My mate bought a 356 Porsche - never welded original car.

Told his Mrs it was £5000, she's like ' where did you get that from??'

god knows what she'd say if she knew it was £16000

keep them in the dark and feed them shit, bit like mushrooms!

assuming you are talking baout the sierra, last time it was clocked with a standard box it did 154 mph with the speedo reading 157 mph
when it blew up, with it's longer legged box, it was off the end of the 170 clocks, and with the potential to redline in 5th at 178 mph, i think it might just be able to get them to fit

but that's not the car these brakes are going on, i've got a set of 355's for the front and a set of 330's for the rear for the sierra estate

Buy 'em mate

Then (as countless generations before) follow the ancient Roman art "Bullus Maximus" commonly known today as the "partner pricing protocol" which equates as below:

Genuine cost: X
Minus variable "disgust" rate: Y
Leaving the "disclosed" fee: "Generally 50% of original"

Results can vary(depending on gulibility) but surveys prove over 65% of couples report, buyer satisfaction without the usual side-effects of telling the truth

You've answered it yourself: you don't need then and it's for the kitchen.

Now, I have loads of stuff I don't need but wanted..but wouldn't spend the cash that was put aside for something else that isn't just for you.
Look at it as an investement. You get the kitchen first which keeps the missus happy...meaning you then have the bargaining power to buy whatever you want for the next year without getting any grief

You buy the brakes now and that's it. you won't get any peace even after the kitchen has been done, as "it should have been done months ago, but you bought those bloody brakes!"

the more i think about it, the more complicated things get

the money is for the leather sofa's we are getting

this plan was put on hold because she wanted to get the kitchen

then the kitchen was put on hold because the asking price (£12,190) was a bit much

then the asking price went down to £5500 but that was with me doing the electrical work and getting the holes drilled for the extractor fan and tumble drier pipework

this was still too much

so now the money is sitting there doing nothing and i'm sitting here thinking "will she notice it's gone if i don't tell her"

i've put it on the back burner for the moment as i also need to buy her soemthing for her birthday (she's going to be 30, i think) so i need something that will "surprise" her, and i don't think a load of brakes will have quite the "surprise"effect i'm looking for

so, i'll get the brakes IF i can get her something for her birthday in a weeks time, so lets end this brakes saga and carry on to more iportant thing, like what to get the mrs for her birthday before she figures out i've spent a shed load of cash on some brakes that i probelma won;t need

Are you physically building the kitchen inc walls?? !!!
That is an excessive amount to spend imo - unless your kitchen is the size of a small house and you're having marble worktops @ £3k a piece.
