Default zetec cams!

whats the score?! looked on burton pwoers site and they want £545 for a kit, which seems a bit much! do i need a full kit?! i know in the cvh'syou have to replace the cam and lifters together otherwise they self destruct, but is that the case with the xetec aswell?! i thought they had cams, valve and shims inbetween?! would i just have to replace the shims or am i miles of here (cant you tell ive never done much on a zetec)

what cams are the best aswell? its gonna eb running on 40's and i want a good 180bhp after the carbs cam and a touch of mild head work. whats the verdict peeps?

Personally wouldnt bother with after market cams mate.

been looking into zetec tuning over the past few years.

Seems for a good NA setup you can get away with a 105PS Inlet and 130PS exhaust cam with a set of veriner pulleys to fine tune it all.

Got a 2.0 going in my car soon! Focus inlet and a few other trick bits should be good for 170bhp

Its possible they are quoting a full kit...or the top of the range cams that give most bang. Dont forget its going to be expensive anyway because you're paying for two camshafts!!!

yeah they are quoting a full kit mate, and its fast road spec, nowt mad. but im wondering if this is for someone whose got a bare head or what have you, as they do sell the cams seperatly.....which kinda says to me your not going to uck the engine if you dont put the full kit in?! i just wanna make sure though, itll just free up alot more cash for head work or whatever.

and simon - ill be using twin 40mm carbs as in the first post mate!! no crappy injection to worry about for me!

the fiesta centre were selling cams for about 150 - reground piper ones i think.

these are just bare cams though.

the cam kits are 2 cams.... seals... lifter etc... all 16 off hence the big price!

simon - why the 105 inlet? is the 130 not good? did you get a run at FS? what did you get?

Go for Crower cams. they are made from blanks and are available in 3 stages. stage 3 requires quite a bit of head work though to get them to fit in (huge cams) stage 1 are good for turbo'd engines and stage 2 are a bit lumpy on tick over but help the engine power further on.

you can get these from edge motorsport. when i ordered my stage 2's for my old focus they were £250

I wouldnt buy a full kit with the vernier pulley because zetec engine pulleys are not keyed onto the shaft they are just a taper fit. a good tuner would be able to set them up for you

hope that been of some help
