Default Outside pond advice

hey all

I have got an area of my back garden which is a bit dull and i would love to build a pond there. Nothing huge just enough to have a few gold fish etc.

The only thing im worried about is that its very shaded in that area and it doesnt get much if any direct sunlight.

Is this an issue?

cheers

TBH mate the pond will need sun to warm the water up. Shade at stages in the day is no problem but permanently in the shade is far from ideal. That said, the sun breeds pondweed which is a pain in the arse but that means a healthy pond.

All ponds need sun and shade. They need the sun to warm the water and shade for the fish in the summer. You can make artificial shade by putting reeds and rocks for the fish to swim in and around but you can't make artificial sunshine.

You want to pay the electric bill for running one of those mate ? Fucked if I would.................besides the fish love to bask in the sunhine and as I said before sunshine makes for a healthy pond and a heater can't do that.

Why not get a barrel type pond ? That is exactly as it says and you can put that wherever you want to
