bit rich for me that one
4k service i aint worried with,,, well considering i get filters at 80% cheeper than retail i service the BM 3 times a year,,, just cause theres fuck al i can do to it
just done it tonght as i checked the oil and it was low, rather than topping up i serviced it,,, only 1 green bar has gone out too
the oil aint even black like it usually is when servicing these days, just dark like treacle

i like to service my car alot to and do anything needing done aswell but it uses tyres brakes and clutchs at almost the same rate aswell lol.
and i forgot ginge you can get parts for everything cheaper than anyone can make them for why not build a car from new bit you can get cheaper
and changing oil to soon isnt always the best thng to do either. oil takes time to work

davie i work for a company that makes aftermarket parts aswell as supplies motorfactors with parts to sell on to garages/customers to make a profit and theres HUGE mark ups in service parts ( 5 litres of oil just over 4 quid, filters just under a quid)
cant make a car though as we dont do body work and we make pattern parts so aint any point
still shity pads for my car, 4 quid rear and 7 quid front aint bad
though the fucking wheel bearing was 18 quid

I think crank walk is when the thrust bearings wear prematurely meaning the crank is free to walk from side to side.
As already said above the engines were revised and the crank walk problem cured in the Evo 5 onwards
Prices for parts aint too cheap but they never are with performance cars in general so nothing new there. With regards to servicing Mitsubishi state 4500 mile intervals which drops to 1500 miles if the car is driven hard (which i imagine is track use and not just fast road), this service includes AYC oil, engine oil & filter, not sure if its diff oils aswell.
Clutch's are shite as standard and will not last long, so be prepared to change it for a bigger Evo 7,8,9 clutch at some point, paddle clutches or twin/triple plate seems the popular choice with modified Evo's.

I agree, there is no reason for an evo to be serviced more often than a cossie, mitsi were just more realistic about it than ford, so publish figures more in line with what the car really needs, anyone doing less servicing than that on their cossie is asking for troubles IMHO

evo4 yeah as said crank walk,
check the breather system has no leaks, they commonly leak before the inlet manifold on the egr system, s-bend on the exhausts are bad for corroding and perforating at the top, (most aftermarket systems do away with the s-bend though) also clutches go and head gaskets, so see if any of these have been changed
then just general stuff, check the service history, belts been changed? how many owners,
tuning parts arent all that expensive,
first few monds should be, (as ever)
exhaust full 3" s/s (£350)
tubular equal length manifold (£200)
Induction kit
then
evo7 camshafts
uprated fuel pump
fuel pump relay
evo 5/6/7 ecu (these are mappable whereas the evo4 ecu is not)
and there is a few other small bits and pieces (big list on the mlr forum)
350bhp for under a grand and they are really nice to drive.
anything over 350-380bhp and you need to start taking the engine apart for stronger internals if you want it to be 'safe' power

OEM parts are very expensive though - much more expensive then Evo 7-9. Diffs, driveshafts (those fail a lot on older cars), (the dreaded) transfer box etc. Of course most probablythere is 2nd hand market in the UK, but still newones may be needed. I reckon it's cheaper to buy more expensive newer Evo and pay less for parts and repairs.
