Bloody hell. He seemed to stay quite calm throughout the spin though.

What was the flashing on those gauges on the top right of the dash all about?

Is this the same event where that guy got hit by that bird in a blue Evo last year IIRC.

did he clip a cone or something? We've done a track day at Marham, I know you have to watch out for changes in tarmac etc, I thought it was going to roll can't believe his first reaction was to try to start it again, bet he was a bit shakey afterwards

Yes, that is the event where the bird hit the screen.

Some awesome cars there. When you take into account that a moderately tuned Evo (say around 350-380bhp) can do 30-130 in around 15-17 seconds, there were 10 cars there yesterday that were sub 10 seconds.

Gary did 8.8 and Ross (a customer of ours) did 8.6. Fastest of the day was 7.1 from an Evo 9 GT owned by a 20 year old!!

Wrong. The RAF Marham days have plenty of support teams. Best organisation I have seen at an event of this type.

When Dan said "guy got hit by that bird in a blue Evo" I thought he meant someone was run over by a women driving an Evo

Very lucky

But to me it appears he went to turn right at the end of the runway

Having no "speed reference" on side of track - trees houses walls etc
it is very easy to think you are travelling at a lot slower speed than you actually are without any items going past your window to judge your speed against

I did the same once many moons ago

Working at a disused airfield I turned up in my first MKII RS2000 (apprx 1989) saw the runway and went for it - lol lol

At the end of the runway I slowed down (well I thought I had) and did a perfect handbrake turn to go back up the tarmac

Problem was I was still doing about 30mph

Car spun then lifted on 2 wheels but luckily it fell back the right way up

Here's an example of the cars at the top end of the scale, putting in mid 7's, they look like they mean business......

Then when you see this.....

It looks like a fairly ordinary 400bhp Evo 9GT, well, on the surface.

That really is the best example of a stupidly powerful car I have seen. Full interior, all the creature comforts, totally not in-your-face, yet packing 800bhp, GT40, Twin wastegates, Dog-box etc etc.

Awesome.

Also, don't forget the car never went over, so although it was a 180mph spin, it was fairly clear that there were no serious injuries. God knows how he got away with it though.

Well, I haven't read that myself, but almost everyone had the rear wing off, which isn't a great idea for high speed. At 130mph it isn't a big problem, but I don't think I would do 180mph without it.

Am I right in thinking normally when one wheel goes on the grass there's a massive chance of rolling, or does it make no difference?

The guy says it was because of taking the wing off in his text for the vid:

A small video of my car spining at the MLR 30-1...
A small video of my car spining at the MLR 30-130 day at RAF Marham 03/11/07 - previous run of 182mph went fine, second run i removed the rear spoiler as it was bending alot at high speed; i hoped it would give me another 10mph, instead it gave me zero down force and zero stability once i came off the gas! Took a deep breath and held on until the ride finished!

Rich White in what is possibly the nicest Evo 9 in the country...

Remember loving that car when i was at RC...

I heard on the grapevine his vortex generator came off the roof as he lifted from the top speed run?

The blue RC car there was a bare shell build - porsche riviera blue
