Default How do you send a folder by email?

Hi
I cannot work out how to send a folder of my car photos to a potential buyer...i have a folder of approx 40 photos and it is about 140mb but my aol account will not let me send a file this large.
If i try to send them by hotmail,it will not let me send the folder, and makes me load each photo one by one
There must be a way to send this easily???

regards mark

Mark are they zipped up as a folder? Or are you attaching 40 photos to 1 email?

Zipping them or WinRar will make it smaller but it depends if he has the s/w his end to unzip the folder

Or just host them on photobucket and send him a link to the folder?

Yes i am trying to send 40 photos i just compressed them with winrar and makes my computer go barmy when i try to open it,Ie starts and just flashes on and off and i have to switch off manually
I have been sending a link to photobucket for people to look at them but thought it would be better to learn how to send a compressed file.

I doubt you can with any of the online free email providers as they all have size limits that 140mb will exceed.

Host them all in photobucket and just email people the links

Mark I find WinZip much easier to use

Just get your folder with 40 pics in, compress them and chose the destination (just send it to desktop for ease so you can find it) and then attach the compressed file on the desktop to the email

it's too big
simple as

most emails won't send anything over 10 mb so with 140 you are slightly beyond that limit

open up all the pics in paint
resize them to 20% of their original size
send them all like that as attachements in one email

ask him to point out any pics he's aprticulalary after then send him full size versions of them

This is the dogs bollox http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm ,changed them to 1024x768 and the 143mb goes down to 12.4mb
The main problem i had before was loading more than 1 file to email at a time so i assume i still have to create a zip file to send folder?

Pop them all in one folder, then right mouse and choose zip.

change 'work with one file' to 'work with multiple files'

it will do a folder at once, in one go

select source, then destination

then as stu says, zip or rar them into one archive for attachment

you always winrar them and then send the file over msn, or as said the best and easiest way is to host them on photobucket and send the link.

You know how to send a compressed file without actually doing it anyway

This is deffo best, you can then just right click an resize whatever pics you have selected - be it 1 or 1000. You also get choice of the size to make them.

Must be XP, and maybe SP2 though.

Why not just upload them somewhere like photobucket or Google picasa web. Then send the link to the user and he can go view them and download the ones he wants.

Plus, if someone else wants the pics, send the link only and don't clog up other peoples inboxes.

Cheers

Matt

As said, you won't be able to send a a single file (as in, all the photo's in a single RAR/ZIP file) via email as I don't know ANY email service that supports files that large. Even my gmail only supports 10mb per file!

Zipping or Rar'ing the files is the easiest way to send multiple files (for example, your 40 pictures) in one go, but you won't often get a huge reduction in filesize, and you certainly won't get 140mb down to 10mb...

Easiest way is to zip or rar them into a single file, then upload to a file server and send the link to the person you want to recieve them. They then simply click the link and download the file, open it and there's your 40 pics, all uncompressed and still full size.

I use Yousendit.com for this but they only allow upto 100mb when using the free trial service. I have also used http://www.axifile.com/ as they do 200mb file limits...

You just upload the file, which depending on your connection might take some time, then when it's uploaded it gives you a web link. Email this weblink to your recipient, they click on it, and then download the file. You can send the link to multiple people aswell, as it will still be hosted (read the terms as I forget how long they host it, or how long the link is active for, or if there is a restriction on the number of downloads for a single file)

Either that or upload all the pics to an online photo album such as picsaweb, Flickr or photobucket and send a link to that.....
