Default Valve Clearances - Help with calculation?

Hello team.

Gotta shim up my inlet cam again, and want it done as quick and painless as possible. Has anyone got any calculation to work out the correct shim size?

For example, I'm using buckets with 3,100 on (some are 3,000 etc all between 2,950 and 3,150) Shims are 0.09 of an inch thick, and I can get a gap of 15 on the feeler gauge, between bottom of lobe and bucket.

I need the clearance to be between 0.08 and 0.10 (8 and 10 thou (?) )

Any ideas?

Sorry about all the barbling numbers and shit, but want this painful bit over and done with ASAP. If only I hadn't fucked snapped a sprocket bolt!!!!!!!!!!

Basically if you have a gap of 0.015 and it sholud be 0.009 measure the shim that is in there ontop of the bucket and add 0.006 to it ie shim measures 0.105 you need a shim that is 0.111 to give you a gap of 0.009

Measure them all and work out what you think you need, you might be able to swap a few around. Those you can't will have to be replaced with new shims of the correct thickness. Once you have rebuilt the head measure again as some are bound to have gone out of tolerance.

Engine builders tend to have a good range of shims for the common engines and equipment to linish oversize shims.

Got LOADS of buckets, and LOADS of shims, it's just gonna take time shifting through them to get the correct ones lol.

Gonna take all the messurements saturday and go frmo there, hopefully I'll crack it pretty quickly then I can get back on with putting engine bacvk in.

Thanks guys.
