Default Political Correctness - Case Study Number 1

Jim Bowen

Of a lunchtime, I usually watch an old episode of Bullseye on Challenge TV.

Now, today's episode, from 1986, provided myself with a little food for thought...

Whilst interviewing the contestants as per normal, Jim asked one guy what he did for a living. To which the bloke told Jim he was a Machine Operator. Jim then asked what he made, and he replied, "cakes".

Jim then continued by asking the chap if he had any kids. "Two", he replied

Jim says "So it's not PUFF PASTRY then"

I found this little quip rather hilarious, as did the (mostly elderly) audience, but if any TV presenter said that today, they'd have the sack and have protest groups calling for their head on a skewer

World's gone mad, and this is a prime casing point

In ways, maybe so

but this just wouldn't be allowed, not on a light-hearted family gameshow

look what happened to Jim Davidson is Hell's Kitchen. This is only akin to what he said
