Default I need some advice

My family has owned a local shop for the past 80 odd years, originally run by my great aunt, who ran it until she died in her late 80's. When she died it passed on to her sister, then my great aunts daughter. When she died 3years ago she left it to her husband. Now he wants to retire and sell up for redevolopment. Now, you might think I'm being bit selfish, but I'd like the shop to stay in the family, theres only him and me left on that side of the family, is there any way I could stop him from selling up, the shop is well known in the town, and I hate the idae of it being pulled down and the land built on. If it helps, his wife, (my great aunts daughter) ws a bit of an outcast family wise, my mum was closer to my great aunt than her daughter was, and it was often said that if my mum had been around when my great aunt died, she would have got the shop instead.

So if anyone knows anyway I could stop him selling, I'm not in a position to buy it myself at the moment.

I am not sure, but if it has been left to him, then it is his so would imagine you have no rights to it

Plus, who is going to run the shop if it stays open?

Looking at it another way, say your owned it, and wanted to retire and enjoy life, and he wanted to stop you and keep it open, meaning you have less to retire, if you could at all, how would you feel.

Just trying to see both sides

As to who would run it, it doesn't do too badly, could prob get someone in during the day, and me and my gf at other times.

Fair enough it was left to him, but this is my family history, and wasn't originally left to him, his wife originally left it to the cats home, when she died it passed to him and he selling up. It just pisses me off what he's doing with it,

If he has the entitlement to the land, lease, shop, property, premises or what ever it is, he has the full right to do as he wishes.

The only way you may be able to stop anything is to contest the planning apllication when it is made for whatever is going to be in place of the shop.

Sorry fella.
