Default Question, PassionScooby.com.

My Rover turbo is due to go next week and I am looking at a Subaru Impreza, To be honest budget is probably reasonably low, I would be looking to spend around 5k.
I know they have shite pistons and the imported ones may be a knightmare to insure.

Any one have any feedback to them please.
Thanks

£5k will buy you alot of Subaru these days and insurance needn't be a nightmare. On Scoobynet there's guy called Gary Moulson that posts as Moleywrx and he works for Keith Michaels and will insure just about anything, he even insures my Cosworth

The main problems seem to be caused by detonation by either a shit grade of fuel or high speed runs where the air goes over the intercooler scoop rather than through it. Classic Jap imports are supposed to run 100ron fuel and some muppets think that sticking in 95 is enough A remapped chip can soon sort that though

Ah so if looking at an import is it advisable to think about remapping too.

IF you could raise £7300 no less, you could have my WRX on a 52 plate just turned 30,000mls

i would, or at the very very least run it on the best fuel you can buy with octane booster.

This may help you in your thinking

If you're thinking about a classic shape 240ps or 260ps wrx you can get a plug in chip that is mapped for 95, inceases the boost, power & removes the top speed restrictor for around £190 from ScottT from polarperformance. My sister has the 260ps wrx and I fitted one of their chips to it a few months ago and it goes really well now and runs 1.1 bar instead of 0.9

Whilst we all may have different opinions, here's mine,

i would go for the re-map, the reason being not every car will be the same and a plug in chip will be not the best for every car.
With a re-map at least you are not leaving anything to chance.

remember an off the peg suit will never fit like a made to measure suit.

Of course that is true but a chip for less than £200 is better than trying to run on UK fuel and hoping for the best.
