Default ST170

Just been to look at one, it was awfull, exhaust heatsheild was rattling, oil filler cap was stuck on, it hadnt been serviced for 20k miles, centre caps on the alloys were all knackered, all 4 discs had bigger lips than me, the battery had what looked like dry toothpaste all over it and the battery connections, and the front bumper looked like had been painted with airosol cans. now my budget is at the bottom of the scale for the car, just over £5k, so i expect the car to be an 02 plate with average and above miles, im not looking for an 04 plate with low miles. so am i wasting my time with my budget, or do people think i will get a decent one with my budget ?

ive been on pistonheads, the autotrader site etc 10 times a day for the last week pal. the first link you posted looks different, ford never offered them in midnight blue i dont think, only capri blue and imperial blue, so it must have been requested when new maybe ? looks different to the norm though

I've seen em in midnight blue before mate...

Have you considered a 2.0 ESP? Marginly down from the ST170, but still nippy, great car to drive, cheaper insurance and best of all your looking at the top end of em in that price bracket.

your budget is too low. I have said it before on here somewhere IMO buy it cheap and get alot of problems. Spend a bit more and get a nice one

Im thinking you might be rite fella, all the ones in my price range arnt exactally mint low milage examples. ive only really looked at 3 doors, but 5 doors seem to be cheaper, and although they dont look as nice as 3 doors, its still a 170 and 5 doors would be handy for the kids. your old one looked nice, best colour aswell

TBH you will find heatshield rattles on older and newer ST170's. Mine rattled quite a bit even tho it was well looked after. The rest of the car should be mint, theres enough of them out there just take your time and make sure you get the best condition one for your money

BTW i traded my ST170 in at a Ford Dealers and got £6.5k for it just under 3 yrs old, had xeon headlights, climate control, heated front screen etc with just 31k on the clock was a heatbreaking price but they had this i wanted instead :

I had both on mine, i replaced the bracket that snapped in half but the heat sheild plates around the cat still rattled at 2000rpm. In the end we had 2 massive steel bands around the cat sheild and it stopped them rattling but they needed tighening every 6 months.

If i still had the car i would ditch the std exhaust and cat and have a sports cat, problem solved

I was very lucky and found a good ST170 for sensible money, High miles aint a problem if there looked after, but there are lots to look out for when buying one. Really you need to spend nearer 6K, They do drive great though although dont seem that quick, But I guess I'm used to my F150 Lightning which is near 600hp

just phoned about one, 1 elderly owner, ffsh, its a 5 door, hpi clear, 04 plate, 65k miles , pretty high for a 3 year old car, about 21.5k a year, but he said he'll take £5400 cash becasue he's already got his new car, seems to cheap to me, but its done plenty of miles i suppose. there's a skoda octavia vrs ive just phoned about aswell, decisions decisions.

I'd go look at it, n older guy doesn't spend time on the net thinking I can get more for my car etc and hike up the price like most on FFOC, He knows what it owes him and had his fun in it since new, Also 21k per year is mainly going to be up and down the motorway which will make a far better car than someone doing 5k per year through town etc.
