ebay snipage required please
not one to be a cunt and snipe right at the last moment for what i want, i've decided that i have to cheat to play the game
so, how do i do it?
i've already put a ridiculously high price on the item i'm after (which has no reserve) but seeing as no one else is bidding on it i don't want to fall victim to a sniper in the dieing seconds
going along with the "if you can't beat them join them" school of though, what is the most surefire way of beating any sniper bid?
other than putting in an unfeesably large bid in the first place?
i'm sure someone must be able to "hide" a page away so that no one else can see it, the technology must be out there somewhere

We do this on a few items we are after.. Normally bid at first but then someone out bids us with a few mins left..
We just have the item description page open and have another page open with your total amount, click 'bid now' and keep refreshing the description page til you have 10 seconds left,, then click the confirm link on the other page.
Girlfriend has got is sussed now also so I can trust her to buy things.

ok, so have the same window showing the same thing open, but twice
on one window put your bid in, wait till the page goes to the "bid accept" screen
then wait on the other screen until 10 seconds are left, then press "yes/accept" on the first screen
yes?
and no snipage required?

i just don't want someone else coming along thinking "oh look, this is only a tenner" and then ramping the bidding up in the finial few minutes
i don't mind paying Ł250 for it but if they stick in a silly bid like Ł251 right at the death then i'll be pissed off
see what i'm getting at?
if other people had put their bids in during the past few days then i wouldn't mind but it's sitting there tormenting me at the moment

you don't get it do you? it's an auction, you have a maximum price that you are willing to pay and if somebody bids higher than that you just have to accept that you won't win it.
you just have to decide your maximum price. is it Ł250 or Ł251?
if i was prepared to pay about Ł250 for something, i would put in a maximum bid of Ł253 or something just to hope to beat the other person that would also stop at Ł250 or Ł251 but there are no guarantees

Plus, you may well have been outbid at Ł251, but this is not to say his maximum bid wasn't Ł400, that you will never know - all you know if you got beat by a pound

Sniping is the most reliable method but even this method has faults due to failed links and disconnections. Nothing worse than getting the message bid failed unable to connect.

Cunts like this that ruin DrainBay.
Accept the fact that youve been outbid by someone else, Its not like WWE who's got the biggest muscles and then demand a re-match

I dont understand what you mean...even if you are high bidder, you can put another higher bid in at any time why did you not increase your high bid before you went out ?

They really don't understand the your PC will only bid enough to beat the other bidder UP TO YOUR MAXIMUM bid! Exactly as your example!

well, to be honest, i was hedging my bets and was bidding on 2 at the same time
i know, i know, i would have been fucked if both had been won at Ł250 a time but i got one for a tenner so i'm happy with that reslut
and as for what it was, st220 front bumper for a tenner (ok, it's broke a bit but i know a man in a bodyshop who fixes them for a living )

there is no need to do any bidding yourself - that is what the proxy bidding system does for you. if you put Ł250 in at the beginning, it will go into the ebay system and you will win it unless anyone bids more than your Ł250 (no matter when they place their bid)
#25
i know that, which is why i only put a Ł48 bid on the broken one because i was thinking that Ł250 for a complete bumper would be just about the right price for it because the bits to make it complete cost more to buy individually
still kicking myself for not getting one that was on a "buy it now" for Ł100

Ebay is as simple as it gets
BID ONCE
BID LATE
BID YOUR MAX
Thats it, dont bid on day 1 FFS you're just pushing the price up early.
I use a both a snipe program and do it manually now and again if I'm in, the snipe programs are great cause you can set it on day 1 of the auction and just forget about, instead of clicking on the auction 5 times a day worrying about whether you're going to get outbid, you only end up increasing your max bid doing that as you've grown attached to whatever you're bidding on and must have it at all costs, this why things fetch silly money, even more than brand new ones sometimes

that's probably the best sumary of what goes on, it's the "must win" item that tends to go for loads, i'm currently locked into a bidding war with someone but each day the price goes up by about a fiver so i can live with that
