Its to indicate the software in it is lambda compliant. And that chip is the one you are changing anyway.

I heard that you cannot plug lambda into L8 ECU with red sticker?

Im kinda screwed right now, cos im trying to get my 1992 4x4 Cossie thru vehicle inspection (in Finland) as it is imported from Sweden. Seems like my Cosworth had green rocker cover, catalysator and lambda as original. Now it doesn't have any of those. It works well and hows that possible if the lambda is removed since I can't find it? And Finnish laws say that I need catalysator and lambda fitted, in order to make it legal. I have ECU with red sticker. So I cannot fit lambda in my ECU now? Must get L8 ECU with green sticker in order to fit lambda?

Finnish laws suck.

No you can't as said as the calibration isn't Lambda compliant, I would imagine that you can, but you will need the correct calibration to do so?

I took some pictures of my ECU and stuff. Which one should be the lambda connector?

I should have some kind of tuning chip but I haven't checked that which make it is.

OK thanks for answer. Seems like I have one of the early 4x4 Cosworths made without lambda nor green rocker cover since theres no lambda present. This was first registered to use in 1.1.1992, which is the date that matters when it comes to MOT regulations in here. Or some previous owner could've changed red sticker ECU as he removed cat and lambda.. Who knows.

Your engine is YBJ, YBG had the green cam cover, I think I am right in saying the latter had the cat and Lambda, so yours is most likely correct.

Yes, YBG had green rocker cover, plus lambda and catalysator. YBJ had red rocker cover and ran without cat or lambda. Its quite common to remove the cat from YBG engined car, in countries where its allowed.

But as far as I know YBJ engined 4x4 Cosworths are bloody rare. They were only made in 1989 and perhaps early 1990? I should somehow find out the date when my Cosworth rolled out of the factory, then I would know if it was originally with red rocker cover. It now has black rocker cover.

Edit: I went to check out the VIN etc. plate in the engine compartment. It said the engine type was ''N5''. And, I looked closely at the rocker cover, at some places I could see red paint below the black paint coat.. Seems like YBJ.

Cheers, I checked it (after some cleaning of 20 yrs old oil, grease and crap ) and it said following ''YBJ 1003''. So it is originally red top engine, but I wonder what the four numbers will tell me..

The YBJ cars are all wired up ready to go normally with the lambda plug in the engine bay. You can confirm this by looking into the ECU connector and seeing if pin 2 has a wire in it. if so, its ready.

I know of a H registration YBJ, therefore that will be a late 90 or early 91

I have 3'' exhaust and it has place for lambda, so thats OK. I couldn't find any other wires exept for the three ones that can be seen in my pics. I will probably remove the connector from the ECU later today and check whether pin 2 has wire to make sure.

Just for curiousity, what are the three wires separate wires, and what does the lambda connector look like?

Thanks for your help.

Found a wire in the engine bay which looks like a lambda wire.
