hotrod engine choice *now with shell pics*
i started building that 1928 chevy tudor sedan about 10 yrs ago. never really got cracking on it until about 2 yrs ago and then bought the escos so progress had stopped completely again.
escos is almost done so i was getting back into the hotrod....but now i aint happy with the engine no more. its a new crate 502cui V8 with edelbrock heads and the whole 9 yards on a richmond 5-speed manual....not all that bad but not special and oldschool. i'd love something different but not below 8 cylinders....
please share ur ideas with me PLEASE

dodge ram engine,,,,, yes the same as the viper
if not then a bmw V12 if you want a silky smooth running engine
V10 though just cause its a great idea and im trying to learn about them

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
i'm running a dodge viper engine in my kit with its 6 speed, but thats going to cost you 7k+ unless you go for an older engine, how much you got to spend and what power, if you want modern ford with old school look and not to expencive try http://www.karkraft.com/new_page_2.htm

what generation viper engine did u get and u have all the emissions stuff on aswell ?

im looking for more of a sophisticated engine / gearbox combo around 500hp, sequential would be cool but not a must.
italian engines are nice but utterly unreliable, french dont make any big ones...yanks all outdated
and german is a nono in a hotrod.
so whats left apart a spitfire RR engine ?

an engine i thought of using in something is the jag v8 supercharged engine, easy to get 500hp, light and compact. and you can get all sorts of gearbox veriations on the back of them

Was watchin OverHaulin the other nite & they fitted a Chevy 572ci to some Yank car (correct me here if I'm wrong - I'd had a few beers & was half asleep) which was chuckin out 600bhp+ - again bought complete on a crate!!!

I think some one should post the link for the GTTT up bj928 over to you for that one.
American old style engines are no way as good as the new bread of multi valve.
A supercharged 4.6 mustang engine is easy to get 500bhp from and have it running all day long without any problems go a bit more mental with a twin turbo setup and 1000bhp is poss.
You could always go the viper engine route get a gen 2 twin turbo it and end up with 1000bhp on what we can call low boost im sure bj928 can provide the link to the correct site as he did all the research on the viper engines.
If you want the same as in the kit car then thats easy to get working the gen3 has a bit of a problem with the in built anti theft system but thats easy to overcome in the end as for the wiring up of it im avaliable at interesting rates as i have proof that i can wire a v10 viper engine to run (pmsl ill blow me own trumpet LOUD lol)

I've been offered a drive in a 1930's race car, powered by a all steel flathead v8.
The car was shipped over to the uk for full restoration over 3 years and is apparently quite a serious piece of kit
From what I have heard about the flatheads they dont really make serious power and from moving a block around the workshop its also wouldn't be my choice in a kit car
A alloy blocked engine like Danny advised would ideally be the way to go IMO
I'll get some pics of the race car as I have no doubt you would be as interested to see them as I am in seeing yours

thats what it was originally.....
we chopped it, then i reinforced the whole structure cause all this chevy was, was a wooden structure that was rotted away with sheetmetal nailed to it
so then i widened the body, and added a double floor to make it more rigid and soundproof
chassis is an ART MORRISON custom made for us to accomodate the 2door sedan wheelbase.
the project was abandoned twice, once 12 yrs ago and anotherone time 4 yrs ago. so its state now is that the shell needs another 100 hours welding and the chassis needs adapting to mechanics and shell which is another 75 hours ....... we'll see when i get to do anything further on it....
oh ya....its ME doing all the work, unlike some might think .....

I Assume you have the chassis for whats pictured to fit to? If not I'd like to see bigger main rails in there though if you intend on 500hp
