i'm running a dodge viper engine in my kit with its 6 speed, but thats going to cost you 7k+ unless you go for an older engine, how much you got to spend and what power, if you want modern ford with old school look and not to expencive try http://www.karkraft.com/new_page_2.htm

so whats left apart a spitfire RR engine ?
if you think the yank engines are out dated you need to look at some of the modern engines, all alloy, vvt, titanium con rods!!!!!!, factory dry sumps, 7000 rpm rev limits, 32v quad cam, 500hp without a turbo or supercharger in sight, whats out dated about that, or did you mean everyone else has fitted a yank v8 and you want to be different, like i am being by using a v10 viper gen 3 engine

an engine i thought of using in something is the jag v8 supercharged engine, easy to get 500hp, light and compact. and you can get all sorts of gearbox veriations on the back of them

u the 1 with the caterham style kit ?? love that project

what generation viper engine did u get and u have all the emissions stuff on aswell ?
thats me, gen 3 engine from a 2004 viper, its running a high flow cat but only needs that for sva, after that it will go on a Q plate so only need a visual check for MOT. ecu has been remapped to catless and no power steering or aircon, i can't wait to pilot the thing, don't think driving will be an option

thats the one, even if it is a vauxhall/gm/holden/chevy engine, if the engine is half as good as its spec sheet, its an fantastic engine, got the latest corvette very high up on the stig lap score board, 500hp N/A

here is the topgear test of the car with the zo6 engine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e5_TNT_agI

and you can buy the engine in a crate from the factory brand new.

I think some one should post the link for the GTTT up bj928 over to you for that one.

American old style engines are no way as good as the new bread of multi valve.
A supercharged 4.6 mustang engine is easy to get 500bhp from and have it running all day long without any problems go a bit more mental with a twin turbo setup and 1000bhp is poss.

You could always go the viper engine route get a gen 2 twin turbo it and end up with 1000bhp on what we can call low boost im sure bj928 can provide the link to the correct site as he did all the research on the viper engines.

If you want the same as in the kit car then thats easy to get working the gen3 has a bit of a problem with the in built anti theft system but thats easy to overcome in the end as for the wiring up of it im avaliable at interesting rates as i have proof that i can wire a v10 viper engine to run (pmsl ill blow me own trumpet LOUD lol)

There are more options that you would think it just depends on you and how far you want to go and what you want to spend

Not only is a German a nono in a hot rod but so is putting a Ford engine in a chevy chassis.

It's o.k to use a Ford 9" rear end, and it's o.k to put a chevy engine in a Ford.

What about a Lexus v8?

Ignoring the first statement you don't need your fancy multi valve/ cam engines to get reliable power, you certainly don't get cheap power from multivalve engines.

"Old school" single cam 2 valve head Ford or Chevy engines are perfectly O.K

Guess which engine I've got 2 of?

Michael how about something like thissee link)

http://www.adrenaline-race.com/forum...opic.php?t=587

or this, without the big turbo.

We done a 5.0 32v N/A cobra engine that made a healthly 430hp, there's so many options and if going for a cobra base motor there alloy block.

GM Performance Parts 572CI crate motor.

Gotta be a GM engine if it's going in a GM chassis.

I've been offered a drive in a 1930's race car, powered by a all steel flathead v8.

The car was shipped over to the uk for full restoration over 3 years and is apparently quite a serious piece of kit

From what I have heard about the flatheads they dont really make serious power and from moving a block around the workshop its also wouldn't be my choice in a kit car

A alloy blocked engine like Danny advised would ideally be the way to go IMO

I'll get some pics of the race car as I have no doubt you would be as interested to see them as I am in seeing yours

Nice pics I Assume you have the chassis for whats pictured to fit to? If not I'd like to see bigger main rails in there though if you intend on 500hp

EsCosRacer sorry michael, but your time would be better spent going to welding school than on the internet asking about engines
