Would be a good post to put in the tech' section

Nothing I know of, probably costs more from Ford, lol. Mine runs synthetic as per gearbox builders (non-std gears).

the best oil to use is FULLY synthetic 75/90 in all the 4x4 drivetrain components, it doesnt break down like the standard ford stuff does at even slightly higher than standard running temps.

just make sure you use fully not semi

yes mate we will take your syncrobig tooth kit in part ex aswell if you wish

personally i would stay with what you have got a dog box on the road will do your head in after a bit the novilty would soon wear off

if anyone has an uprated box always use FULLY synthetic 75/90

i use the FULLY synthetic 80w/140w in my T5 box its a bit notchy untill it's warm


the only reason why ford use the ATF in the mt75/t5's so you can get gears easy from cold

with all the other proper stuff you have to warm the oil up a bit thats the only down fall with it

add up all the costings of replacing standard gearboxes then.... it doesnt take long to make it the cheaper option

then imo they shouldnt tune a car so it breaks boxes.....

budget for what you can reliably afford

i bet the t38 set up and engine build etc cost more than 3k?


im not having a dig at anyone dont take it the wrong way...but imo why run big power if the car cant take it? its just going to make it un reliable...this is exactly the sort of thing that gives cossies a bad name, but in reality, they break because money gets spent on the engine but nowhere else...

true in a way but nearly everyone with a stage 3 4x4 cosworth set up is at risk with having a standard box.

why have a Ł4-Ł5k car and go bananas spending on better gearboxes and diffs etc...

i have the same spec or similar to pete

i have a new ford box and am probably going to break it

i still cant get my head round 3 grand for a box either

if it was a pure track vehicle yes maybe but for the miles i do i cant justify 3k the wife would kill me

Ł3k well spent IMHO, having spent that myself on Marco's Mullit box.

Having broken 4 standard boxes in a row, it soon adds up. I lost out on 3 track days and 1 broke on the road while racing a friend. Took ages to get home and the hassle of box in box out box in box out got on my tits.

Incidentally, it's not Ł3k and then all gone - you now have a Ł3k box worth at least Ł2.5k even a year later... so if you ever sell the car or break it you won't lose all your money.

Worth saving for to have peace of mind.
