They are bunch of theiving bastards. My local one is full of kids who know jack shit about a motor. My wife went down there and they told her the exhaust had totally gone and needed replacing. I had a look while it was on the ramps and it was perfect, looked almost brand new. When I asked why it needed replacing they couldn't tell me but insisted it did. When I pressed them the boy stated there was a rattle from the back box and something must be loose inside (so the whole system needed replacing ). When I asked did he mean the 'baffles' he just looked at me blank then called the manager over also tried to tell me it all needed doing but couldn't explain why. We declined their offer.
I don't trust them at all

i used to work for them and it was filled with people that didnt have a clue ,including me the time first week asked to fit a downpipe to a mk4 escort and the studs snapped i told the boss i couldnt do it and he said just fix it ,the customer was a ex mechanic and he ended up doing it for me ,unsure if he got a discount or not
.
every month they run area target nobody wants to look shit hence needless parts being fitted

i took my van to quick fit because i thought the downpipe was blowing, they told me it was miss firing, so i asked them to put it on the ramp as i thought it was downpipe and he looked at my back cox leaving me to point it out to him lol, useless bastards lol

drove in there once for a tyre repair (as i was in town) and got the reply after about 20 mins " we cant let the car drive off the premises" i asked why not? there words were" The cars not road worthy" why i asked they said, suspension brakes and tyers.....this was on a 02 plate st170 focus about 2 years back.
They couldnt really give an answer to as why they said all this was wrong, just tryed to baffle me with bullshit.
I told them to get fooked and went and bought 2 new tyers from Britania instead.

Not with KwikFit, but Cola did have major problems with a Rapidfit in Dunstale. Due to incompetence they managed to take a big chunk out of the sidewall on one new tyre, and didnt fit a battery correctly which in turn fried the loom - all on her Escos. She was without her car for months as a result.
RapidFit couldnt care less about it. If Cola had just accepted that fact and left it she would have had to pay for 2 new front tyres and a new loom. But she didnt and with the help of a few board members (Big Nige, Brom, Clare & Gary)the police and CAB soon became involved. She ended up getting new tyres, her wheels refurbed and her new loom bill paid for - only because she perservered though Just dont be fobbed off! not entirely the same circumstances, but you should take the same approach!

Hello, Sorry to hear this about your daughter.
I'm 18 and i've got a ford Ka! I've been to kwik fit for two of my repairs now. They did me a really good deal and seemed to have no trouble.
I don't know what to suggest that you could do, perhaps as like some of the other guys have said, go and ask to see the old parts.
I am real dependant on my mum and dad and ask them for advice in everything. And i agree that when put into that position "forced" into gettting the new parts or whatever, it is a horrible position to be in. Especially at our age!
Keep us updated on whatever you do!
Good luck Pal

Take someone BIG with you when you go in to complain. Tell them you know your stuff and you know that the other tyre was fine and you want to see it. Take a look at the pads too as they said they needed doing. If they don't, go back in the same car and ask them to show you why they need replacing. Be firm but not aggresive and ask to speak to head office if you get no joy. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to get any joy from them. Good luck with whatever you do mate

On a different note I remember a few months ago someone complaining the EXACT opposite when a fast fit type place let a car go with a dodgy tyre......
How did you know that the tyre was repairable did you remove the tyre and inspect the inside of it have you a recognised guage that tell you the area that may be repaired (you'd be surprised the small area that is actually repairable) and remember the thinner the tyre the less area that is actually repaiable.
If I were the manager of a Fast Fit centre or similar I would not fix anything outside of that area (or anything that didn't look safe imo) due to the fact that if the car were envolved in a serious accident and inspeacted by SOCO and the repair was seen and in an illegal position I'd be liable and in deep shit...
Just my view from the flip side of the story to give the opposite opinion and this post could quite easily been the other way round with Kwik Fit or similar being slagged off for letting a tyre go in dangerous condition as I've seen on here before.

The kwik fit in my old home town is the only place I trust to do any work on my car, everything else I do.
They are a bunch of Ford nuts in there and they have always really looked after me, doing some great deals. They have never damaged my car in the slightest or even tryed to sell me anything. Even though the manager moved on that I got on really well with (and used to see at all the big Ford shows, he has a 230bhp ERST) the rest of the lads still give me the same sort of service.
And from what I saw, they were really honest with the other customers cars, I used to have a nosey round quite a bit at what they were doing and they were always spot on.
The branch at Kettering though is populated by clowns who couldnt set my tracking because it was 'dangerously out' (kind of expected to be quite a way out because I had changed my bottom arms and track rod ends), he didnt appreciate me laughing at him infront of other customers and for some reason wouldnt let me borrow their tools while my car was already up on the ramps. I should have known because there was a woman in there complaining because they had done a pre-mot for her and made a repair on the brakes, she took it for an mot and it came back failed on the repair kwikfit had done, apparently a dangerous fault, and the goon in charge at kwikfit refused to do anything about it unless she paid to have another repair done.
It would appear that some guys in some kwikfits are sound guys that look after customers, the majority though are tossers.

They do pray on the weak I'm afraid..
You have to have a bit about you- I've been in loads by me before for conviniance more than anything..
The cost you state for 2 tyres for a none performance car is just discusting.

Update on todays visit to KwikFit
Eventually tracked down the manager, or at least the only person there that would admit to being incharge, and asked to see the 2 tyres that had been changed. Funnily I was met with the reply " Sorry sir but all the used tyres were collected this morning and we can't identify individual tyres anyway".
Skipping over many minutes of inane arguments, suffice to say that the tyre with the nail in was found I asked this to be checked with a gauge to show why it was not repaired, no gauge could be produced to do this. Eventually a plug was used to show how close to the side wall the nail was, surprise surprise the nail was outside the area of the plug. " But we always err on the side of caution so allow larger margin than normal for safety sake sir"
The other tyre could not be found! but the reason for replacing a perfectly good tyre was that it is dangerous to only replace only one tyre at a time on a front wheel drive car.
It was at this point that I walked away as it is obvious that they make it up as they go along and haven't a clue.
Their Head Office, Trading Standards, the Local paper and WatchDog will now be receiving an interesting letter. Perhaps if everyone these cowboys shafted complained then they might put there house in order.

You said at the start that they rang her to say the other tyre was below the legal limit and that's why they asked her if she wanted it changing. Now they tell you that it was because it is dangerous to change only one tyre If that is the case, which we all know it is'nt, then why did'nt they say that to her ? Fuckin joke if you ask me

...sorry but i see they did nothing wrong...a young girl in a car could be deemed not very experienced and rather than repair it would be wiser to replace, and i feel you should change the pair up front again on an inexperienced driver...safety first.
...or am i wrong?

i also thought if you got 2 new tyres fitted they were supposed to put them on the rear of the car
places like kwik fit 99% of the time don't have a clue but there is the odd one but tbh id only ever go there if i knew the person after my experience
shit news and hope you get it sorted.
i had a problem with them before on my old rst as i was to lazy to tighten an exhaust bolt myself so thought fuck it will get kwik fit to do it.they drove car on a ramp dragged the exhaust clamp down the exhaust and pierced my fuel tank then come to me and said sir do you know you have a fuel leak pmsl basically after few heated words i had to go away after they said they would fix it at my cost
i then went away and called there head office who couldn't believe what had happened and arranged a courtesy car for me till mine was fixed free of charge
worth giving the head office a call on Monday morning to see if they can help you

Just a quick point.
Have they fitted the new tyres to the front or rear ?
My local independent tyre fitter showed me some gumf from somwhere or other, but basicaly says that they should fit the new tyres to the rear even on front wheel drive cars ! (for stability reasons apparently )
http://www.michelin.co.uk/uk/auto/au...b_pqr_neuf.jsp
http://www.michelin.co.uk/uk/auto/au...b_pqr_neuf.jsp
Etc
So if the manufacturers recomend it and I was told he had been told to recomend it, then if KF didnt it could maybe used to show there LACK of profesionalism
Just an idea as something else to use against em

Kwikfuct when I parked up asked if I rang about the ''tyre for the black corsa''....needless to say I didn't buy one. Was from the back aswell so it said both ford and fiesta on it. I would be better off making my own tyres from chewing gum dipped in charcoal dust.
