i did a bit driving bin lorries, not massive wages but short hours, effectively afternoons off and auto boxes and the same routes so easy life.
then i scored well with my first tacho'd job through an agency paying me 450 a week for class 2! been there 6 months (longer than original contract)and now theyre asking if i want to be permanent staff! i deliver plants (yep like flowers etc)all around the country to focus diy and garden centres, fairly long hours but not the most difficult job in the world and i get to listen to what i want to on the radio! and of course they may save me a load of cash and sort me a hgv1 license out!
my advice is get around EVERY agency near you,and take the jobs youre offered, then when you find one you like bend over backwards to help them out and they will look after you,has worked for me so far,ive taken 2 days off in 6 months and i dont mind at all!can be a bit stressfull but so is every job, plus i get to see cool cars on the roads, meet hot polskis in the nurseries, check out the hot legal school girls when they going to and leaving school, and see the countryside, there are some beautiful views out there!

Im 24 and got my LGV 2 licence earlier this year, couldnt find anyone willing to take me on (under 25 and no experience) so i joined an agency to get the miles in
The moneys resonable and at first i got to do a variety of jobs, which was good because to i got to try different types of HGV work (food, general haulage, skip work etc) For the last few months i have been working for Travis Perkins delivering building materials, agency paid for me to go on a Hiab course which was cool
Have done about six months now and im on the lookout for a permanent job, i would like to do some general haulage work and go off travelling around the country but jobs like that are hard to find

is it just a case of getting into an agency and waiting till they offer you something decent?
I phoned a company in glasgow today who said they only do temp but can currently guarentee 40 hrs min, dont know what the rate is though
would that sound reasonable for a while because i was quite shakey about it?

i was lucky,my agency found me this job in 24 hours!!yeah,if they can guarantee 40 hours your ok i would have thought, ask what the rate is.
320 a week (£8 times 40) is about 250 take home i think so can you live with that?
its better to get guaranteed hrs in my opinion as then your deffo earning a set amount, and if the can guarantee the 40 you may be working more but never less so you can budget for the basic and any extra is a bonus!
