mad? yes.

i loved my rst also but would never go back. everything you aspire to with an RST you get standard with a cossie...power, handling, brakes etc

Then theres the added bonus that sierras dont tend to be as rusty as bloody escorts!

used to love the noise of the escorts burbling exhaust too, and alot easier to tool around in without attracting the attention of the law

erm mine attracts alot more attention than the cossie from the filth, although i dont think the limo tints help

i find it a bigger buzz getting in the RST than i do in the cossie, get one ginge

plus cheaper to fix maintain

What a stupid topic, they arent in the same league.

Saph:
Rwd coolness
Unbreakable (for fast road use) transmission
Mega strong engine that can make huge power
Easily tuneable management
Decent leather interior

ERST:
FWD gayness
Transmission made of chocolate
Engine thats suffers from asthma
Horrible MFi or hard to remap EFi management
Distinctly average trim

Chip, you have just saved me lots of typing
Seriously though, RSTs' are good cheap cars for under Ł2000, but anything over that and you can pick up a half decent RWD saff that will be so much better than any poxy RST.... The only things RST's are good for is a nice exhaust note, and they look nice, very very dissapointing to drive IMHO ... Any decent cossie is a joy to drive, so much nicer

i agree with you ...
i find the saff a bit predictable where the escort was always a handfull, had more road action with the escort than the saff ... no one wants to play
but mega cheap insurance is the clincher .. saff it is

Note the phrase HALF DECENT .... as long as the engine and box are good, who gives a shit about the bodywork? ... Quite a few saffs in the 2-3k bracket that are perfectly usable

Ive not seen one for ages.

These days anything mechanically sound and capable of an MOT seems to be 3K+

Just keep your eyes open, they are around, Ebay and the like is a waste of time as muppets get thier mates to bid them up, check the local rags , and don't forget that a Ł3000 saff is easily Ł2500 with cold hard cash and a good haggling style ... And Ł2k is the lowest I have seen for a MOT'd running saff, just saying that they are out there in the 2-3k price bracket.

Half decent? for 2-3k, Will what drugs you on? If its 'half decent' Id care about the body work...

Don't wanna 6k launch it and the rear beam come off the rear end

I wouldnt pay 3k for a cossie, asking for trouble IMO

I always found my S2 more fun upto 100mph as well as more fun on short blasts here and there and the cossie lots more fun above 100mph and longer blasts

It's just nothing on the cossie is less than Ł100 to fix
