ANYONE BEEN TO AMSTERDAM?
Just booked up a flight to amsterdam with 2 of my mates,were going on the 5th of november till the 8th, but we havent booked a hotel, we was just going to find a cheap place when we get there, has anyone else done this?what sort of money did it cost? and is it easy to find a place

yup, been to Amsterdam a few times with work (involved loadsa of beer and women though!!). Not sure on hotels as we were put up in the Krasnipolski (SP) in Dam square but I think thats dear.

Dude when you get to amsterdam airport get a rail ticket to central station ( 2 stops ) then go to the first main platform and you will find a VVV go in there and they book your hotel for you just tell them how much you want to pay, thay are really helpful and its not a privete run thing so they dont make money out of you.
One more tip as soon as you get your bags from baggage reclaim take off ALL the air line tickets as these are what the theives look for as they know you are a tourist.If you need any more info PM me you number and i will give you a call.
I know all this because i used to go there every two weeks to work.

damn is good
our hotel had a fookin rat in it - not fookin good when you are stoned. Kicked up a big fuss and managed to get our moneyback. Walked str8 over to the tourist info desk and got another hotel further out (5-10 mins by taxi) and it was cheaper and much much better and no fookin rats

Have been before and enjoyed it very much!
If your only staying for a long weekend then it is worth booking somewhere reasonably nice, its not too expencive, but worth it because when you get back to your room completely wasted, youd appreciate a decent room.
There are tourist info places which can book you or point you in the direction of places to stay, nearer dam square the better.
Words of advice though, there are some seriously dodgy people out there, as soon as they get a whiff of a foriegner they will stick to you like glue and try to milk you, best is to mix in and not shout out with you english accent half way across the street. The skunk there is ok, a bit over-rated if you ask me, but then the red light district is full of amazingly sexy birds, if you feel you have to
Remember that the trams do seem to come out of nowhere when your pissed/stoned etc so be very carefull!!!!
Other than that enjoy yourself
