Default Are we being ripped off by buying OPTIMAX?????

Test done for the 'TIMES' by superchips.....

proves that there was a 1bhp gain over normal unleaded but all other things like torque, etc, etc were exactly the same......

Final statement by them was "it would be fundamentally the same for any engine" and somewhere they say it dosn't matter what state of tune!!!!

their opinion.......that BP and Shell are ripping the BOY RACER off by selling them HIGHER OCTANE fuel, by selling the name and image instead of something that is better than normal........

better stop using it in my nova then!!!!

I use it everytime, don't think im being ripped off as its only a few pence more...I mean it works out to be the same amount of money we could easily lose in change down the back of our front seats. No problem here, been told to use it by tuner to help stop it going bang at higher speeds.....

Exactly.. i hope this is a pisstake

Ive had literally HUNDREDS of imports come here for chipping running std 95 and pinking their cams off and ive had to send em to the local shell to brim the tanka nd they DO stop Pinking, so whoever sorted this "technical" article is clearly an uneducated fooking moron

tis true.....exactly what i said to the chap at work who showed me!!!

I basically said that i wouldn't use anything less in the S1 and espcially if it was mapped like 1000's of cossies, etc, etc to this fuel....

they apparently used it in a......wait for it.......FORD C-MAX but they recon it would have been the same for any 'state of tune'

but because he has read this......he's now going to stop using optimax in his SEAT CUPRA R straight away and use normal 95 as he feels that hes being ripped off

Indeed, higher octane fuel is only an advantage if the ecu is remapped, or sufficiently intelligent enough to optimise it's ignition advance to show an improvement.

If this test was conducted on a car with no adjustments made, remapped or with an intelligent ecu then what do they expect!!!

Madness!

It is true for all UK car standard engines though!

Knowing quite a few of them, there are so many muppets with standard Saxo's and Corsa's who pay out for it's 'placebo' effect!

Optimax should have a higher mon rating than super , all high performace (super optimax etc) fuels in the UK should have a minimum of mon of 86, optimax should be around 87.5. However I wouldn't really call any of our fuels high performance anymore

muppets.

test it on something like a bmw or honda that have timing optimised by knock sensors and their results would be quite different.

proves how stupid they must be if torque was the same but they say the power changed

Unless you have the timing adjusted, you should always use minimum of SUL in an ERST. They ran 98RON from the factory.....

.that BP and Shell are ripping the BOY RACER off by selling them HIGHER OCTANE fuel, by selling the name and image instead of something that is better than normal........
shell optimax, and bp ultimate use identical base gasolines ie SUL , however optimax has a slightly different additive added to it at loading !

in the south of england nearly all gasolines come from the BP refinery at coryton in essex anyway!!!
they are definatly higher ocatane and cleaner than normal unleaded95

so the answer to the initial question is NO !!!!
