i cant see from the pics what has actaully broken, but if its th einternals to the gripper than i would like to bet Tom Seal would like to have alook at it (Mr Gripper for those who dont know)

that does look like a small diff - what size is it btw ? and what power is your car ?

have you got a contact number for him mark?pm me,i belive hes in coventry,so quite close, power with the nos is around 600bhp,but it was only on 10 psi when it broke, and i never launched it,just put my foot down when it was moving.the crown wheel looks ok,but there are some bits missing from the pinion.i cant get the unit out to have a better look at the moment.

lloyd

it wont be the actual unit thats broken it might be bits of the crown wheel or the pinion

personally after my experiance with Tom Seals i wouldn't give him my diff ever again to rebuild , he subs lets the diff it to Coventry Automotive for rebuild they gave me back the diff with no pinion seal and kept my spare 108mm input shafts , i still have not had them back
im sure they went into Nutters diff because his diff was there at the same time

him/they took the piss with it and still to this day he never gave me the plates i asked for my diff still has too much preload on the plates still grines around the corners at slowish speeds does my head in even worse when the oil get warm

they are a good diff tho

ps thoses phone pics are shite

marco, the crown wheel is undamaged, some of the bits are from the pinion, the main bits in the tin are from the gripper.it still drove, and i think the damage to the pinion was done driving back from brunters.is there a mullet diff available to take big power?i will ring tom on monday, and see what he says. ps,the pics where taken with my high quality aldi camera.

Surely a good diff in a 7.5" casing would be better ?

Didn't Martin (Reyland) not just run a Quaife atb in a 7.5 housing on his old Escort ?

Hi Lloyd

ring Tom first see what he says as it his unit , if you have broke the gripper unit itself you are the first person i have ever heard of breaking a unit

see normaly with these gripper/atb/or vc diffs these never break it's normaly Crown wheel /pionion /planet gears (vc) that break first
with the Gripper plated diff sometimes the outer bevel plates can break but you wouldn't hear anything all you would lose is a bit of preload pressure

i havd had my 7.5 gripper plated diff for years never broke anything
have had the plates change and serviced

is yours a 7" diff still shouldn't matter tho

ps scrap that camara they are bad pics take a few more without the flash on so i can have a better look

for better pics, try using macro mode (usually denoted by a tulip symbol) as you are too close for the normal focus

hi lloyd

that looks pretty bad , did you buy this diff brand new ?

if not was it ever service ? still that should never happen

what i can understand is your car is 4wd you only have 70% of the power going to the back wheels

i would defo let Tom know anyway even if you dont chose too use him

this has got to be the first plated diff i have ever seen broken, might have been faulty part that has caused the damage

unlucky mate

hi lloyd

rwd or not, it still shoud not have broken like that , i bet there was something wrong with it when you bought it
just wait untill it's repaird no point looking for another one unless you want a spare

if you're putting 600 + bhp through a 7" diff i don't think that you can be surprised that something has broken can you?
