Gearbox - Why won't the car turn over??????? UPDATE
Just finished trying to get the car finished for a FF thrash tomorrow. Called it a night and dropped out. all my hard work and its let me down at the last hurdle.
Anyway, problem is this. I fitted a new clutch and flywheel this weekend, we got everything bolted up, and the starter just kicked and wouldn't turn the engine over.
Tried moving the crank with a spanner, and wasn't having it.
As soon as the gearbox is about 2 or 3 MM away from the block (i.e a few bolts loosened slightly!) The car starts, and the crank can be turned with a spanner. When it's tightened back up, it won't turn.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks.

We thought it could be something like that, so got it started up, died quickly, but we were hoping it'd get everythiing to line up.
Will see what the score is tomorrow, definatly an unusual thing I think?

the input shaft isn't actually sitting through the splines so when its lose it will turn over, when its tight it wont as it just locks everything up solid.
Either way you wont be fixing it intime I so know how you feel mate

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
If the flywheel has been made thinner to make it lighter then could it be the bolts are now slightly too long and hitting on something through the back of the flange on the crank ??
I don't know the Fiesta set up really but just a thought...

Oopsies LOL.
Right, got the car started tonight with all the box tight, good news!!! then tried to get it into gear, and not happening. Jon and I bled the clutch manually and using an automatic brake/clutch bleeder, and still the same.
So, in record time (20mins!!!!) the box was off, kind of. It seems the input shaft is stuck on the friction plate. It could be the plate machined wrong, who knows.
Anyway, we can't get the box off, so the engine is being dropped out the bottom and we'll go from there.
Not too bothered really, it could be worse at the end of the day, i could be paying labour charges! but because I'm doing it myself, it's OK
Will keep you updated.
