Full Respray
Just had all the prep work done on my XR3i and now it is ready for a full respray on exterior. Was wondering what some people have paid for a their respray's.
I just got a quote of £1275, however they said they would do it for £940 as all prep work has been done so leaves them little prep work before the spray.
Does this seem a good price?
This is how it stands now

I dont know the guy or seen any of their work.
The chap who has done my prep work recommended me to him though and said he is good.
Still looking around for more quotes. taking my car to a new place in town tomorrow, but apparently they are expensive, but I they did my mates car and its a quality job.

well i'd get them to take the kit off before painting myself, if you're having the whole car done you want it to be mint...so it seems daft not to take the kit off

with resprays like anything else you usually get what you pay for

Prep work isn't all done, and any that has been done will need to be properly checked over.
Still a fair bit of work to do to get a good job, remember the last thing needed is the old "well you prep is what has let it down"
900 notes seems fair if the job is a good one.

I`m with Kev on this one big time.
if the guys wants to do it for 900ish quid then thats fine but i know plenty of proper bodyshops that would take a shit load more than that.
prep is important but the painter still has to have the skills to get it on there right.
i`ve done the 500 quid car resprays and at that price they aint worth doing and the customer get shitty about it cos it aint factory fresh
fuck off and try it yourself then see if youd be happy to only see 500 quid is what i told one bloke that actual job was nice as well

Gotta take the windows out aswell surely??, be a shame not to
I would ask specifically if they are going to go over you prep to ensure they are happy with it and amend it if needed?? Could leave no room for excuses!!

Cheers for the feedback, they said for 900 they would check the prep work + redo a layer of primer, do 3 basecoats & 2 laquer. So seem's a fairish price, considering he has knocked £200ish off.

Wouldnt touch it if you havent seen his work
I know a top bodyshop near me who does plenty of classic and resto stuff as well as insurance work.
Was going to Pay £2500 to paint and prep my 16i if i delivered it stripped of everything but engine running gear and glass. They would build it back up.
Would have been worth every penny.

£900 is cheap if its a good job, 90% of resprays out there are shit and not even up to original paintwork standard.
I.e kit off, windows out, etc etc.
non of this i'll masking it up, as they always miss patches.

I learnt the trader in back street garages ect and tbh i have learnt a massive ammount but i havent worked in a bodyshop for almost 6months now as i got feed up of bodging things plus i`m way to fussy to be doing it like this anymore
i would get back into body work as i enjoy it but only if i could find a job in a proper garage that actually takes a real pride in getting the job 100% everytime.
this 900 quid job has to be worth looking into mate, just going there and seeing the place ect usually gives you either a good or bad impression plus how interested they are in doing your job says alot.

i paid a well established bodyshop £1500 for a completly stripped rolling shell respray with all new panels already prepped 7 years ago on my cossied celica so allowing for inflation that wouldnt be bad as long as the finish is good. should be like a mirror with no orange peel effect at all. like Tevs above. thats a good quality job by the look of it.

Been to another place today and they said they would remove everything off the car windows doors etc, + seemed a far more professional place. I have seen their work + it is shit hot, however they do charge for the privillage. Just waiting for a quote from them now!
