Default Puma rear drum removal? how?

Ok, after buggering about in the pissing rain on sunday, i managed to fit a new rear shock rubber, make and fit new rear brake lines and bleed the brakes, but the other thing it failed the MOT on is the handbrake

I cant adjust it at all - it has no effort on the o/s rear

i tightened the nut on the lever, it comes on with 3 clicks now, but only does the n/s

to adjust them, you are supposed to release the lever and press the pedal hard 6 times -this does fook all, so i guess the adjuster must be seized...

but im fooked if i can get the drum off to give it a whack

there is like 4 really thin nuts that locked together in a metal cage thing... but i cant get it off

anyone got any ideas lol

Dont bother undoing the four bolts that hold the stub axle on, thats the Ford and Haynes way of doing it

From what I remember simply pop the centre cap off and undo the centre nut.

If you've wound the handbrake cable right up you'll need to loosen it off to remove the drum.

Also it'll be an idea to check, clean and adjust both sides then finally re adjust the handbrake or you'll end up with an imbalance in the service brake as well as the parking brake.

Also, check what kind of bearing it is before you tighten it back up!

If it's a tapered bearing DO NOT tighten it right up or you'll crush the bearing and end up breaking all sorts

as i said, i cant get the nutS off the hub as they have a spring thing around them, and i dont have the correct size socket

i wont need to slacken the cable either, as the hub spins rather freely lol

so the easiest thing would be what other nick said, and remove the 4 bolts

i dunno why i didnt think of that, possibly cos i was piss wet through, covered in brake fluid and pissed off

cheers all

The reason you can't get the hub nut off is, they are tightened to 235nm or 173 ft/lb
The nut is a reuseable locking nut good for 3 or 4 times
You need a good correct sized socket, a good long bar.
The rear bearing isn't tapered.

Undoing the 4 bolts is easiest

i knew it was tight as fook, as taper bearings use a retaining collar and split pin

oh well, 4 bolts it is
