Astra GTE 16v, cheap to buy, cheap to run, and cheap to maintain. Much more fun than any of the above. Your not going to get a 'fun' ford for under a grand that comes anywhere near a GTE 16v, infact even the 8v's are good fun.

Ok the clio 16v's are pretty good fun but only last about 10 minutes if you give them a bit of stick.

I personally dont see XR2's as 'fun', they dont dont have the power. On track then maybe, but not as a fun road car in my opinion.

What about a nova gte or gsi?

astra gte r a good car nova gte/gsi are the same as xr2,s imo apart from u have to give yourself alot more braking distance in a nova

The brakes on the GTE's and GSI's are better than an XR2's by far in my opinion. Both are not great though. Its the non gte/gsi brakes that are not worth a shit.

As far as performance, they would both wipe the floor with an XR2 in every area. Ive had a few of each and they just dont compare at all in my opinion.

you'll probably never find one for under a grand but a Polo G40 is quite a little stormer.

an FRST is probably going to be pants for that sort of money.

but the VR6 sounds good.

Or maybe old school 325i BMW
