uprated gearbox for a 4x4 saph
Hi
Im looking for a gearbox for my cossie which would be well capable of handling 500bhp and many full throttle launches The car will be used for 1/4 miles and some normal driving.
Can anyone recommend anything or know where i would even find one. Im not really sure what my options are.
Are there many uprated gear kits available for cossies. I wont mind building the box myself if i could get hold of the bits.
Also, sequential would be the prefered option but H pattern might have to do if it comes down to my budget limitations!
Thanks

Try Martin Hadland @ Reyland:
H-pattern uprated gearkit: http://www.reyland.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=132
'Skyline' conversion: http://www.reyland.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=69
Otherwise, I guess you're looking at ex-motorsport 'boxes like FFD etc.
You'll be needing to look at uprating your diff's too if launching.

Martin Hadland, Marco Polo and Bara motorsport all sell the same box (Barra could prob do stuff from Ricardo, FFD etc as well) that some know as the Mullet box. All costs the same from wherever you get it.
I got mine via Marco and he was and is great to deal with.
Martin Hadland @ Reyland is also a sound bloke to deal with. Who you use is up to you, what you get at the end is basically rhe same thing.
I had one and it was faultless. Great box - with the uprated main shaft you will need it will set you back a fair bit over £4.5k though... but worth it to be able to use the power.
Without the main shaft upgrade you're looking around £3250-3500 ish. Speak to whoever takes your fancy for latest prices

Bara's sequential is £15k .
A good bullet proof sequential transmission will cost the best part of £25-27k once fitted (9" rear diff / 7½" front plus uprated drive shafts). You can knock £4k off that price if you go for the Skyline transmission though.
The "Mullet" box is no good what-so-ever for quarter-miling - not because it can't take the power (which if fitted with the uprated main shaft and first gear, it should), but because it uses the standard shonky Ford syncro rings, so is as slow to change gear as the standard box. Therefore over the quarter you would loose around 1 - 1.5s compared to a quick changing box.

In which case SADEV is another option. French company, wanted IIRC around £16k for a 6sp sequential box rated to 650lb/ft (my memory is pretty vague on the numbers, think thats was it)
OS Giken / Skyline / Reyland hybrid conversion is the other good option there....

So syncro boxes hardly totally useless....
And if the bloke doesn't have £10k to spend on a FFD or doesn't want to Risk trying the 6 speed R&D dogbox then he doesn't have that many options other than a Reyland/Bara box or a Fixit does he faggot boy?!?!?

Do you mean the guy from Sweden, who has done just over 10s?
The car has over 700bhp and runs drag radial 16" tyres when he races it.
He would easily be IN the 9s with a proper box.
Martin used to get 11s with a syncro based MT75 type box with 520bhp.
I was just pointing out that it isn't the fastest of boxes to use for the highlighted event - if it's for fun, then it doesn't matter.
A 500bhp 4x4 Cossie equipped with a quick changing dog box should see high 10s .
