anyone been to amsterdam, can recomend places to stay

off with a few friends next week and looking for a clean, central hotel (not really hostel people) to stay in

we're out there for 3 days so recomendations of things to do (other than the obvious) would be good.

just seen mixed reviews on different places to stay, and wondered if anyone here had any secret gems they know of.

the dam is the bomb! went there for my stagger back in may.

We stayed at a hostel bout 20-30mins walk from the centre which wasnt so bad. 4 people per room and it was about 7euros each a night lol. It was tight but meant people couldnt laze about in bed so we got out on the sauce

you have to do the usual banana bar etc which is ok but not great. sex museum is a bit weird lol. Im not too keen on porn from late 1800's early 1900's

Make sure and visit the grasshopper, bulldog etc

this is were my mate recomends.says they always have rooms available and cheaper if you just turn up but not to dear anyway.its in a good location and clean etc.and they food apperently aint that bad and hes a fussy fooker

I went out there a fair few times a couple of years back and stayed in the Kraznipolsky in Dam square - right near the red light district!! Proper flash hotel but id imagine quite expensive (company paid for me!)

When I go I always stay in Hotel Old Quarter http://www.oldquarter.com/ Very close to Red Light district and about 200yds from Stones Cafe.

From Central station it is about 5mins walk, piece of piss.

They also do a cracking breakfast in the morning and the security guard will let you drink as long as you want after hours.

Have stayed there about 6-7 times.

thats a bigger boat appently and more like a ferry but if you fancy a smaller boat my other mates went for a stag week and stayed on a house boat.

I've stayed at the Hotel a few times when i've been to the Dam.

Great location (5mins walk from the train station and 1 min walk to the nearest coffe shop and a few mins walk to all the coffe shops/red light district etc), not too bad on the prices and it's Secure too.

Freindly staff with a 24hr reception/bar etc.

I highly recomend it!

stayed in the crowne plaza last time i went. hotel wasn't that nice but the location is the daddy.. 2 mins walk from the station and abotu 5 from the red light district.

mm tbh i wouldnt go on what recomndations say to much in amsterdam.as you gt so many mixed folk going and the hotel that may be perfect for you and another 3 guys.ie near redlight cafes etc.but the person writing the review was really looking for clogs windmills and tuilips .

in all honesty it's only gonna be a place to pass out, surely? so do you really care that much as long as you don't wake up with a kidney missing or cockroaches crawling all over you?

we (me & her indoors) stayed in the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel (4star)



its very central, the coaches for the DFDS ferry trips drop people off right outside Couldnt fault the hotel

ive stayed in the boatel,,, they say its a boat, but it has concrete foundations LOL

dont worry about the hotel you stay in,, you wont be in your room much

ive been twice this year, stayed in the eden best western on the rokun first time and the city hotel above the old bell pub last time, the city hotel was cheap and cheerful, but the eden was a lot nicer, have a look at www.easytobook.com loads of good places to stay there and they show a good map to let you know how close things are.

great fun, will be going back again in january! everyone should go at least once to the dam!

well make sure you go into cofeeshop36 mate, everyone likes that place, well relaxed and nice place to have a smoke.
