Default Following the gripe on the SCC RR setup

...i noted the majority would rather have a road tune than a rolling road tune.

Christian on here reckons you can set a car up on rollers no probs and then we can go flat out and be confident it wont melt.

VIEWS please..dont be embarrased..RR's are for diagnotic only...the ultimate tune is dyno if no base map then road setup...on big bhp test track only.

..come on folk stand up against he rogue tuners

there is no way on gods earth PURE rolling road or hub dyno or anything like that is as good as a mapper with the same ability and monitoring equipment doing it on the road.

ive even had RR operators say the same.

RR is a fantastic tool, but id never be happy until it was finally checked 101% safe on the road.

but id rather have a good mapper on a RR than a shit one on the road!

As I said on the other thread,

I've had mine live mapped by MSD, and I've had mine mapped on the rollers by Steve Greenauld of Race Engine calibration services.

Both drive as well as each other on the road, both haven't melted yet.

Rolling road to set up and monitor gains, then road set up to finalise.....some people will not offer both services, although some may tell you they do

my views are rollers are very good at ignition setup then for me its out on the road for drivability and fueling finish

but here are loads of rolling road tuners do a complete job on them

ive seen a car on rollers that have had 3degrees of ignition more than what it needed ( still no det tho)from road tuning so they got backed off no loss of power and lower egts so really a live map on a road takes some doing hearing det above road noise ect is a fine art its not in a controlled inviroment most of the time risking ur licence life ect (as not many customers will pay for a track or brunters to do so)

and my last point is euan has already stated his car is rr tuned and correct me if im wrong is the fastest t4 powered cossie about so stfu and think of more wind up as youve dragged this shit out

A rolling road or engine dyno can set up an engine 80% - Top end power wise.

The rest is done on the road to make it drive correctly.

The last 20% is the bit that matters the most - Drivability.

Mine drives spot on on the road though, I don't understand how it can be improved even more?

It's smooth all through the range, no stalling at junctions, or juddering or anything?

A rolling road, like the laptop running the mapping software is nothing but a tool used for the purpose intended... Providing the tools are of decent quality and accuracy.... the results are only as good as the knowledge, experience and skill of the person using them

Rolling road can hold it flat out for ages which u cant really do on the road - slowly building up the temps to find the det point.

How do u hold it flat out for 5 mins on the road at peak rpm peak load?

All ways are good as long as u know what u are doing!

A dynamometer is critical to the provision of any reliable performance tuning service. Mapping even standard-powered vehicles is completely unacceptable on the road, not only due to the inability to hold the vehicle at a given parameter to enable accurate tuning, but also due to the obvious illegalities and dangers to both the vehicles occupants and other road users.

A rolling road can hold any rpm any load any gear any speed, can you do this on a road, like fuck you can.
MSD is good, ONE of the best, but even he can't control the weather you can in a cell, ask STU to set up a car for the Pikes Peak hill climb, he will be hoinest abnd admit he can't, as he cannot replicate conditions(thin air), this CAN be done in a rolling road.
Can you LEGALLY map at over 70MPH on the road, NO YOU CAN'T, you CAN on the rollers.
This is yet another totally pointless exercise, as cars if done correctly will be perfectly safe whichever way they are done.

i bet stu could set a car up for pikes peak better than a dyno....... if you took stu and the car to pikes peak

imo, there is no substitute for the real thing ,what can be better than having a map set up in the exact conditions the vehicle will be used in? up hill, down hill over run, traffic, changing air temps, nothing can be4 better than the real thing
