Without seeing your specific setup its hard to comment, but I would imagine it turns down the rear brakes and leaves the front unaffected.

You almost certainly assume wrong there.

You will probably find that wound all the way open its about 70/30 split and wound all the way closed its more like 99/1

(although technically its more a case of ending up as 70/1 as like I say you arent really changing the front at all)

If its in the middle, you will be getting less rear brakes than you would with it all the way open and more than with it all the way closed.

You need to adjust them to stop them locking up, and potentially that point is different on even minor changes like weather conditions or different tyres.

Manufacturers set the brakes up with a MASSIVE front bias normally to totally remove the risk of the rear end locking up on a production car, but if you increase massively the braking potential of the rear, and then fine tune it back down with a valve, you can get the optimum stopping power for the grip available. (well optimum for the exact situation you set it for)

Ive got one on my nova as it has 288mm disk on both the front and back, and without one the rears would lock up as soon as any weight transferred forward under hard braking.

If it feels good where it is now when braking HARD in the dry, then leave it alone as its obvioulsy a nice safe setting
