Default Cossie speedo

Anyone know if there's a way of converting the cable driven speedo from a saff to work with an electronic one?
Just pondering some wiring for project fossie. Trying to avoid having to make a custom dash coz i'm lazy!!

Also, am I right in thinking that one of the pins from a L8 is an RPM signal that could be mated to Focus clocks?

OOh, and while I remember, if anyone had any wiring diagrams for a cossie engine loom, ie what pins are for what from a L8 i'd be very greatful

Hi matey

I wrote a how-to guide on the use of an ABS sensor for this - which I used for my boost controller that required a speed input. The trick is calibrating the device to read the signal correctly. Link below if it helps....

Cheers Jj, if we put the ABS onto the Focus that should come in really handy
I'm just trying to figure out in my head what wiring I need to splice to integrate the Focus and Cossie Looms

Ooops - sorry matey! I should have read a bit more carefully!

What you need basically is a pickup on one of the hubs. I presume that there would be a pick up for a sensor on a Focus (I am pretty sure most if not all have ABS as standard dont they?). So you simply get one sensor, and the adjoining cable, and then you get a pulse signal that you can interface with your speedo (in theory!)

that way, you dont need to worry about installing a complete ABS system if it is not already installed.

To add,

The cossie loom as I guess you probably know is completely separate from the separate from the rest of the Saph except for the obvious (RPM included).

I dont know for definate about the RPM output, but there is definatley an output from the L8. furthermore, with the advent of the wasted spark from MSD, I am sure that if the pulse signal is not immediately correct for the focus, fitting of wasted spark might solve it (albeit a rather back to front solution! ROFL)

Its gonna have sierra hubs mate!! Have a gander at the link in my sig

In fact it'll probably make more sense if I ask if anyone knows how to make std focus clocks work when there's a YB in the bay instead of the Zetec!

I must admit I havent clicked your link yet - Ill have a look later. The Sierra cossie hubs have the ABS sensor pickups and wheels so you can use the method if you need to

cossiemanden - what are you trying to do out of interest?

Can I just take a feed straight off the sensor then if I leave the abs system off?

Hmmm - good question. Now I come to think about it, I'm not sure. Presumably the ABS ECU must have provided a nominal voltage to the sensor, but I am not sure. We need further input from an electrical guru.
