Yep, I now have an engine that is too powerful for the transmission .

I now "think" it has broke a tooth off the front diff's crown wheel, as having jacked it up, that is where the noise seems to be eminating from.

Fingers crossed it is this, as it has done around 40k miles without having been out, and will be MUCH cheaper to repair (as I have a spare) than the gearbox .

Banter or not, that just sounds stupid to anyone who knows someone with an MAD engine as they are utterly nothing like that

Errr yeah....if you say so mate.

What power / torque is your engine and do you have a TUV approved dyno graph? LOL

hi mike

i thought you said it was the gearbox ????
Obviously you can't read, as I said it could be either the gearbox main input shaft OR the prop shaft OR the front diff. I'm now erring towards the front diff, just because that is where the noise "seems" to be loudest. However, it could still be the prop where it goes into the diff, but I'm now thinking that it is most likely to be the crown wheel and pinion. However, I have never seen or heard of one of these failing in normal driving , hence why I was erring more towards the main input shaft (as I have chipped one of these before, and the noise is identical to what I have).

Mike, with all that erring in different directions, and no just getting a spanner out and taking it apart, its easy to see why people get confused about what you are on about

uneducated ?? how many languages do you speak and what degree did u get at university ??
Personally I speak 1 language moderately well (although I wouldnt claim to be fluent) and my degree was in computing with a dash of psychology

Consequently people would say Im educated in areas such as pyschology and computing, but im totally uneducated when it comes to knitting so I stay out of complicated cross-stitch debates, maybe you should apply similar logic when talking about things or people you also are uneducated about as education can be quite specific?

Phil, sadly the PM system is slowed down by having to scroll past all your usernames to find the right person
