The other day i was travelling past bidlington and ended up in a traffic jam, crawling along we came to a level crossing whilst half way across i got caught in the middle for a few seconds and then moved off but then the barriers came down behind me. I ahd a feeling i would end up getting a letter from the plods as there was a camera there. Guess wot. I got a letter asking who the driver was. I've already got 9 points and need my licience for my job as im a mobile engineer. Wot do i do???

Which level crossing was it, as there are 5 in the area

Bridlington Quay LC - CCTV
Sewerby LC - AHBC
Flamborugh LC - AHBC
Bempton LC - AHBC
Buckton Lane LC - AHBC

Line Speed is 40mph over all apart from Bridlington LC which is only 20mph in the Down direction, but Line Speeds are 60mph in the up direction for Buckton Lane LC and then 50mph for the rest and 40mph for Bridlington Quay LC (single line).

Fair enough, a train would be able to stop from those speeds with relative ease (especially on the Down) but thats not the point - you went onto what is 9 times out of 10 a hatched "box junction" type area that MUST be kept clear at all times - take the points and fine like a man

Good luck - its all recorded on black box style recorders. The starting of the "Lowering Sequence" is usually approximately 40 seconds before the train is due to arrive for AHBC crossings - the sequence is started by a train operating a track circuit or a treddle on the line prior to the crossing - fully automatic and fully recorded by data-recorders and 100% traceable

I'm not denying that i should'nt have been on the crossing at the time but as there was a traffic jam i wondered if there was any leaniency? Is it a standard 3 points etc?? They did give me a section on the form to explain wot happened

No leniency i'm afraid, and your insurance company will take an even dimmer view of Level Crossing misuse/abuse than they do of running a red traffic light, expect to be violated hard

I did'nt intensionaly jump the lights. i followed the flow of traffic which came to a sudden halt over the crossing ( on the far side of the crossing) i did'nt even know there was a train coming till i got to the other side and the barrier came dowm

which means you were driving without due care and attention. i cant imagine any circumstance where i would drive onto a level crossing without looking further ahead than the car immediately infront.best invest in a buspass to take you to the dole office

you were travelling along at approx 20mph in light traffic. you remember there was a slow vechicle in front, then for no apparent reason the vechicle in front stopped very quickly, just after the barrier. you had to do an emergency stop and by the time the car had started moving again you happened to be on the crossing.

Was there also a car behind you that had gone in the box or had he not tried the "floor it so i don't have to wait for the train" manover.

If someone is enough of a cunt to even leave himself in a postion to stop on a level crossing he deserves a lot more than just a ban, 10 years in prison.
UNLESS he has some very good excuses that would be acceptable to those killed in train crash ?
There is NO excuse for this impatience, common sense would tell you not to, and if you don't have this much savvy maybe you ought not to be driving in the first place ?
The mere fact that they know you were there shows there are cameras, they would not JUST go on a report from the public, comit perjury if it makes you feel better by lying about who was driving, and hopefully you will both be caught out, either this or stop driving like a retard looking for an accident to happen.

Sorry m8, you should of waited untill there was a big enough space on the other side of the crossing.........Then you cross! Its just comman sense really

If your on 9 points already, then you should of been EXTRA careful than normal when approaching the crossing.
