Hi all,

I want to fit a heated front screen into my Mk3 Escort.

Does anyone know if the Mk4 Esc hfs will fit into the Mk3 ? I know I will need the wiring but that's no prob.

Also do all Mk4 Esc hfs's come with a green tint or are clear ones available ?

Yep the mk4 screen goes striaght in to a mk3 shell, I have a heated one in my mk3
Also, try and get the windscreen seal with it, they're a tiny bit deeper and cover the silver heater elementy things around the screen better
Not sure on the tint Q though, sure someone will know

Being a windscreen fitter, I can tell you that they made both green and bronze tinted heated screens, but not clear heated. Green tint is for mk4/S2 and bronze tint is for mk3/S1...

Both screens are interchangeable with each model, as are the front doors. Fixed rear quarters are interchangeable, but remember the mk4/S2 Escort didn't have production model with opening rear quarters like the S1 Custom's did. So if you think you might change all the glass to green, you're gonna be hard pushed to find green opening rear quarters. We can't even get them at work (Autoglass) !!!!!

The green tint S2 ones are about, so they were made...by someone...I know where their is a set on a car infact (so visual proof lol)...

how much would a heated bronze tint front screen be Thrush, jus out of curiosity.

And no sorry, no heated top tint screens... In fact I don't think any Mk3/4 screens had top tints...

Must be an aftermarket screen cos I've never seen one! I know they deffo weren't production issue....

mine came with top tint, heated. Green rear opening glass is german option.

Just checked my system again and they don't do top tint heated in the bronze blue (mk3/S1) - couldn't be arsed to check S2 tho

Retail price on one tho - £496.11

Anyone wants one fitted - £150 cash, no reciept

Most of em are yes. SOme are Splintex and a few are SafeView or SafeGuard, something like that..... But typically most are Pilkington.... Which is odd cos the Focus heated screens are Saint Gobain, so you'd think they'd have the same company do all their heated screens, but I guess not.......

Oh, perhaps they were then.... I've never fitted one personally, I not seen one.... I double checked the stock list for heated top tints incase I could get Gus one, but they DEFFO don't do heated bronze blue top tint screens for the Mk3/S1 - to be honest I couldn't be arsed to check the S2 green/green screens

But that said, even if they USED to do them, don't mean they still do. Like we can't get any glass with the XR4 logo on for the fixed rear quarters on XR4 Sierra's. Can't get mouldings for 3dr Cos rear quarters, can't get green opening rear quarters for S2's - we can't get rear screens or quarter lights for Rover 600's anymore either - and door glasses on them are dwindling now..... They just don't make em anymore, so once our company stock is depleted, thats it - gone.....

That's bizzare!
Never heard of any Mk3 having a heated screen, unless maybe some odd early Mk4's had bronze glass?

Or maybe they're aftermarket by a company who are confused?

Bronze-tint was used on the German & Swedish markets on the MK3. Most pre 1994 screens are Pilkington as they are the only manufacturer left who still carries them. Same as on a Sierra. 3 years ago, they would have been from about 4 different manufacturers, not only Pilkington supply. Even if you get it from Autoglass, who used to make their own, it will still be Pilkington.

As stated above, green S2 opening quarter glass was a German-standard and you COULD order a S2 with opening quarter-windows, but only on the 1990-spec, but it did cost a lot. Even the cut-outs templates are there in the c-post trims, just not stamped out.

I know this, as not only did I have a set in my old XR3i, but a good friend of mine ordered a brand new S2 in Black out of Bristol St. Motors in 1991 with them fitted. Mind you, the only option he didn't specify was the fuel computer (didn't want to know how bad it was under full boost).

Ian - Autoglass have never made their own glass - we have always used either main dealers or the suppliers to main dealers (ie Pilkington, Saint Gobain, Sekurit, etc). You might be thinking of RAC Autowindscreens who used to make their own glass...

Used to work for RAC auto windscreens and yes they made there own, we could always get bronze blue heated for MK3 within a couple of days as I fitted a few, also fitted a couple of MK1 escorts with heated screens to. lots of stuff available

But the thing is why are they available if Ford never fitted bronze heated screens to any cars?!

Bronze - Mk3 only
Heated - Mk4 only

They did fit heated screens to MK3 cars -- German and Swedish markets...

They also had the option of heated seats finis number used to be:
6152936 for the base pad
1627019 for the back part

they also had the option of either drivers seat only heated or both, with different switches accordingly

Ahhh, sweet! I had spotted some odd Scandinavian optional circuits in a MK3 wiring diagram before, but it didn't explain what they were exactly for... must be those!
