cossie 2wd rack
right getting this this week,my mate who does the work on my car says hes ordered a cossie rack from a motor factor before
fitted it and its been a standard sierra job
he says you can tell by looking at rack only once on,due to lock to lock
ive heard loads of stories over the years about the cossie being a fast rack, being heavier than standard sierra, which i know is true
also that they get heavy at speed??????
but there isnt any kind of sensor etc to tell the car this surely
end of day i dont want to buy a rack have it fitted just to get it removed etc,for the motor factors to say thats all we do
and you need to hand your old rack in so cant order one would have to be local
ive also been told i can get my own rack sent off to get reconed, but knowing my luck it will take ages and need it to be ready asap
what does everyone normally do except buy a second hand one, that options out

Cossie rack is as said DEFO different, ie 2.84 turns lock to lock.
There is no speed sensor on the rack because the pump is the governing factor for assistance they slower it turns, low speed ie parking etc the more assistance you get.
As the pumps speed increses the rollers are thrown out with certifugal force and so let oil byapss them so creating less pressure, hence heavier steering.
If it is only leaking you can recon yourself and not hard to do.

what exactly is the difference between a 2wd rack and a normal sierra rack then?
i can't tell between them or the granada rack's, they all look and turn the same amounts

how does that make it steer less then?
you've stll got to move it x amount of turns to get x amount of lock and i've never had one that was any different to a normal sierra, other than being 3 times the price

the cossie rack is also less turns lock to lock
Best thing to do is send your cossie rack for recon do not get motor factor exchange

I heard that there are small stops at the end of the Cosworth rack that stop it short of the normall sierra full lock possition, if that makes sence. Eg to stop the wider wheels from hitting the Inner arches or ARB on full lock.
