Pain at the Dentist, yeah pain on the wallet!!
Or purse in my case! Granted I haven’t been since Feb 2005 but a trip to the dentist just cost £162!!
£22 examination
£22 x-ray
£28 de-scale and polish
£30 x 3 fillings (two new ones and one re-done = £90, with no injections I may add )
I'm in the wrong business!

Joke mate, although you were a triffle unlucky to need all that "attention", i went about 4months ago for the first time in AT LEAST 5 years and it cost me about £40 all in, had to have abit of dis colouration removed, and a small filling, so i was lucky i guess

Suppose will have to start using mouthwash as well as brushing, I already brush them twice a day!
He barely did anything to the existing worn filling, more a touch of re-drilling and slapping a bit of filling over it, and still got charged full price!
The two new ones were only small ones, and suppose has been a lot of years since my last filling - its not the state of my teeth, its the state of my bank balance
My dentistry turned private years ago

Private is still the way to go IMO.
I went an NHS dentist a good few years back, 4 teeth out and 9 fillings keeping in mind I was not suffering with tooth ache, but two had broke. The other tow broke while he was removing the broken two as he was clumbsy as foof, tearing my gum in two and had to call the head guy to come and finish up and stitch me up
This time went private it had been a gap of ten years I had one root canal, one filling - cosmetic and a scale and polish. They said other than that my teeth are fine.
Thing is, my misses went to an NHS dentist and they said she needed fillings and had Gum disease before treatment, I took her to my private dentist, and what did she need doing????
Nothing, a qiuck polish, the dentist said her teeth are fine, and that her gums had just been brushed to hard so recomended she gets a sensitive toothpaste and electric toothbrush - adding that although he sold toothpastes, she could get them cheaper at boots
Make you think

I went to the dentist for the first time in a couple years, last month. My fault for putting it off really. Had the examination, 2 x-rays, de-scale and polish- came to £80. Now I remember why I kept putting it off. I guess it could be worse as my teeth are in good order, at least.

i ned some teeth moving about, but it's going to cost £80 to find out what they want to do, before getting the braces etc fitted up so that i can keep my original teeth

she's had verniers fited to her teeth?
is that to line them all up proplery then
but fook that for a laugh, if it's going to cost that much i'll just be waiting for them to fall out while i'm eating or hurt a bit, then get someone to pull the fookers out

robbie, just get down there mate, go private at a good practice, not some dodgy back street place.
Most of the work nowerdays don't hurt, and if it does, tell them to stop and they do
I was shitting myself, it had been sooooo long, but when had been and walk out, I felt so releaved.

I used to have a phobia about the dentist, started when I had a tooth pulled and it wasn't quite numb. So I didn't go see the dentist for 11yrs, and that, coupled with gum disease led to some major work. In all those years I had abcesses galore, got to the point where I could usually bear the pain, if not I was getting codeine from my doctor cos over the counter painkillers wouldn't touch the pain. Finally plucked up the courage to overcome this fear 2yrs ago, by that time my mouth was a mess, and was advised to either go for full set of implants at around £1k a tooth, or full clearance. Not having a spare £30k sitting around, and with the dentist refusing to even attempt the clearance I ended up in hospital having teeth removed. Spent 3hrs knocked out while they took them out, most of them they had to cut in to my gums to get them out, ended up with 16 stitches in my gums and 2 in the roof of my mouth, and to top it all, the surgeon has, according to my dentist, butchered my mouth to get the teeth out, my gums are very uneven. I now have to use full dentures until I can find a way to get £30k together to have implants, and I'm still having trouble with roots coming through and gums still not healed properly 18mths later.
All I can say is, just wish I hadn't been such a wuss and got my teeth sorted before it was too late, being 30 and having to have dentures aint fun at all.

i havent got a phobia of the dentist, but still dont like going, best thing i ever did was bite the bullet and have a load of work done, at 23, wasnt cheap, but now i can go to the dentist every 6 months, for a check up and my teeth have been fine (other than a broken filling) for the last 4 years
i also have been able to keep my teeth which is quite nice, my family has a history of hereditory teeth problems, and my 2 brothers havent been in years, trying to persuade them but its falling on deaf ears, the longer they put it off, the more work thats gonna need doing

i floss and use a sonicare and mouthwash and all the other stuff, but my teeth don't actually mesh together properly which is wearing them out
no choice but go get them done eventually as they are starting to wear out
but it's the spiraling cost of getting them done that's putting me offr, i'd ratehr just try and keep them clean and hope for the best, but once they start hurting, i'll be to the docs in seconds
which reminds me, i've got a weeks holiday coming soon so i'll be booking my dental appointment for then

I’ve missed about 4 check ups (supposed to have 6 monthly ones) last filling before these two was about 5 years ago so two new fillings wasn’t too bad, doesn’t constitute ‘bad teeth’ I was just gobsmacked when presented with the bill! In the past the most I’ve paid on a visit is about £50!
Never took out Denplan before as didn't seem worth it as never spent that much of treatment.
KregRS that sounds awful
One bad experience at the Dentist is enough to put people off going regularly, its not pleasant, but as you say better in the long run.
Hope you manage to get sorted / healed soon somehow
One reason why I made myself go yesterday as knew I'd missed a few checkups and the longer you leave it the worse and more expensive the work is.
I don't have injections and fingers crossed I haven't experienced any pain.
I've forced Jas to get an appointment as he hasn't been for years, the usual man response 'I'll go if I get toothache' by then its too far gone, you will be in pain with the treatment and it will cost a fortune (my dentist quote him £340 to start depending how bad one was)

On a lighter note, I no longer get any pain, aprt from the odd twinge due to the roots. I can now eat whatever I want, instead of being v limited as I was before. The worst part of having the dentures has been straight after the op, I couldn't bear dentures in my mouth for 3 months after the op cos it just too sore.
So for anyome whos putting off that visit to the dentist, take my advice and get it done, its worth it in the long run, my main regret is that I never had the guts to overcome my fear so now I wouldn't be stuck with dentures.

Booked to go in on friday for the first time in about 12/13 years, it will be fun as I know I need LOADS of work doing, loads of knackered teeth, one molar which has a hole all the way down so I can see my gum through it yet I dont get any pain, either that or I've got used to it as I can usually eat anything I like (apart from really hard things like nuts and shit)
Oh well just hope I can get away without having most of them out
