Im not sure what your struggling with ?

You connect up the live and the neutral and just ignore the earths and tape/join them together for each light unit (treat as seperate units)

You not thinking you need to tape up each of your two units earths together are you ?

if there is a single cable at each light and they switch on together then ther will be a jb in the roof or 2 switch lines at the switch where the earths should be connected to protect the cable put the earth into a connector at each fitting.

the light fitting should have a connector for the earth wire and there should be no visable single insulated wires outside of the down light connection box in the roof

Im an electrician join the earths together in a connector block, dont forget to use earth sleeve. You need to make sure you have continuity otherwise the protective earth system will not work.

Any more Qus?

the light doesnt have an earth connection as its double insulated and must not be earthed if there are any incoming earth cables they must be joined together and be well insulated thats what it says in the instructions

I guess one light is fed of the other.... join the two earths together where the feeds meet then just terminate the single earth on its own.

Dan

If you have anymore problems PM me your phone number and i will call you in the morning and explain it over the phone.

If there's one cable at each light then they've been jointed in the ceiling space somewhere,so just stick them in connectors m8.

That’s the age-old question. The cable used to feel the lights should be what’s known as twin and earth.

External insulation will be either Grey or White.

old colours

Red = live
Black = neutral
No coloured insulation = earth

new colours

Brown = live
Blue = neutral
No coloured insulation = earth (cpc)

Just connect the earths in the cable together, using a clear connector terminal. People used to just cut them off but we don’t do that anymore.

put some sleeving on it and then into a connector and tape up and if your still worried about it you will either need to have a earth loop impedence test done at each light or test for continuity from the earth at the switch or at the jb in the roof to see if you`ve got on earth at the light fitting.
