Default Garage Door Security.

Any suggestions?

I've had a quick nose on the tinternet and found this site: http://www.insurancesecurity.co.uk/s...security.shtml

I'm not sure whats best to use tho, i was thinking about one of those posts that pulls up out of the ground.....

Any thoughts? Or even feedback on what you use.....

Cheers

If you decide to go for a post type thing, id put it inside the garage door so it doesnt draw attention to whats inside.

What sort of garage door do you have now? Roller shutter type or up and over?

bout 40 quid and easy to fit... simply rawl bolt the lower part of it to the floor, the top half padlocks through the bottom stopping the door being opened.

I cut a 1" square hole in the garage door at bottom centre, then used some 3/4" square bar, shaped like a "L" shape so it sticks up out of the floor(holes) 9" deep and then has an old fiesta rocker shaft, welded on end with end hole drilled out to accept padlock on it.
So this sticks up out of floor, remove when not needed then put back in hole close garage door so it goes through hole padlock through it job done, cost Ł2!!
I also cut some steel plate and made into squares to go around hole for reinforcing, either side of door.
Just have to bash a hole in the garge floor, that's all.

buy a few deadlocks, some chains and a few fook off huge locks, then fit them to the garage next to yours, then no one'll touch yours, just the one next to it

These seem quite good:

http://www.directlocks.co.uk/pacri-g...435fb853f1f961

They lock from inside or outside, good if you have a back door from garage to house

got one of these on mine.. as recommended by my ex crime prevention officer dad... in fact he bought it for me as a present once he saw the escort. got some other measures as well but (without going into too much detail) nothing that would stop you getting in there in the first place.. just stuff to make it hard to move the motor..

Anyone else have any experience in any of the suggested security ideas?

On my old garage I only had the door lock and a padlock at the top showing,
Open the door and you had a pull up post and a bar going across locked on a post either side, was a nightmare to take the car out but it was safe and secure when it was in.

Any security showing on the outside means youve got something worthy of being pinched

they are neat and much easier to use the other locks/methods ive seen
expensive but do the job, the keys are cross shaped so doubt anyone would even try picking it

you could put them half way up then you could open half way and 'roll under'

Exactly. Its the worst thing you can do having these bigs locks and posts on the outside in view, in my opinion. It would be a target for any opportunists walking past.

How about bolting some boss eyes into the concrete floor then properly chaning the car down - thru the wheels and over the rear axle?

CCTV has to be cheap enough to be considered now.

And don't nail the car up to the garage! Keep it quiet and subtle!
