but if you can't see any of the key in order to get a grip on it to retrive it, it may be a case of removing the lock barrel and replacing it

daft as it sounds, a TINY spot of superglue on the tip of a flat head screwdriver can work, but obviously the risk of just glueing it in is massive!
Can you not get to the back of the barrell and push it back upwards, you can on most cars?

If the key is engaged in the lock, push the silver lever on the underside of the lock upwards and pull it out.
Failing that go to a hobbystores shop and get a jewelers screwdriver to pull it out always worked for me.

put the other half in, turn to position one and press in the little tab underneath and slide out the barrel.
if this doesn't work, hammer and chisel off the shear head bolts and get one second hand.
