Default Using measurements as a unit in excel

Can you do this?

Trying to enter data to plot a chart of year vs height in feet.

I want to be able to enter data in as 5' 1, 5'2 etc which is fine, except it recognises 5'10 as 5.1, and therefore a smaller value than 5.9 (5' 9)

Pic added to help my ramblings

Im a metric man myself but I doublt Excel can handle feet and inches in a good way.

I would suggest one field for Feet and one for Inches and then a third field with the total inches.

ie.

Good luck with the "sunflowers"

there is an option to use feet and inches, but it's a bit complicated and certain rules won't apply

i've seen it done as we've got one at work for uniforms and stuff, but the data is tied i to other bits of another spreadhseet so it's not as easy to just pluck the code out and use it

if i can find out i'll post it up, but you may need to convert the inches to metric and use them as units instead and then use it as just a 2 decimal place couner to stop you from returning errors
