Default Mitsubishi Evo Running Gear in an Escort

Doesn anyone have any more information on how this could be done, or the viability of such a project

I've seen that someone has done this in a MK6 RS2000 with a 2.3 I4 Turbo and they've built it all themselves. I'm currently trying to contact them about that, but it's not something I have the time, tools or know-how to do myself, but I'd like to know of a company who can. I am hoping maybe Zoo Motorsport may be able to help me when Brom is back up and running

I have a MK6 GTi, and am wanting to use a very high-powered Zetec Turbo engine and have decided that Mondeo 4x4 running gear (or in particular the transfer box) wouldn't be upto the task

but any information, any at all would be much appreciated

Mike

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick the mate...

The guy whos car I've seen is a MK6 RS2000 4x4, and he has transplanted the Evo running gear into his car, and is running it with a 2300 I4 Turbo

I want to do the same thing, but with a 2.1 Zetec Turbo

The Evo engine is not being used in either instance

having re-read my original post it was my fault for being unclear. The guy in question has transplanted Evo running gear into an Escort, but is using an I4 Turbo

I want to do the same, but with a Zetec Turbo

I had thought about it, but would make a more interesting project using a Zetec. You know, lifting the bonnet and seeing what "should" be there if you know what I mean

Suppose it might be easier using the Evo engine and everything, then it could be changed at a later date if need be

hmmmm

Id go with the Evo engine from the start....

the money you'll be using to build a high powered Zetec, could prob buy you the engine of th Evo, I may be wrong...

cars are for FUN, having the zetec in there seems to make no sense in any way to me if you usng evo everything else.

seems a bit daft not just buying an evo mind, as i bet the fabrication to get evo tranny fitted aint cheap or easy...

I could buy a fine example on Evo 1,2,3 or 4 for a price I'd be more than happy with

but, still, transplanting the engine and running gear is going to be the costly part...

I was quoted 8k to supply & fit the evo 8 running gear using the escort cossie rear beam in to a focus turbo including the fabrication work. Needless to say i'm sticking with torque steer

Dj's did allsort of fun stuff, usually orion inner wings in the boots of escorts / pugs etc with CVH turbo lumps...

I'm inclined to agree with the majority mike, use the engine build money to pay for the transplant... aleast with full evo running gear inc engine you'd have a complete working package with your cars shell on top

all the best, James

and as it would use an escort cossie rear beam itd still handle shit compared to an evo costing much less than the price of the conversion

maybe i don't hammer my cars but my escort cosworth handles
great compared to my evo, and that includes the 5,6,8 i had too
they both handle good imo and this is from experience.
the last evo i saw at liverpool freeport auctions did Ł2200.
and it had rally parts fitted to it, the car was a total bargain

who was that from mate if you don't mind me aking? PM me if you'd prefer. The quotes I've had have been more than that so far, and was starting to think I wouldn't get it done for a realistic amount

Ł8k is do-able, but I think I have decided to stick with torque-steer myself for the time-being, just want to get the car back on the road 1st

and Ł8k to supply and fit?

The quotes I've had have all been to fit only with me supplying a complete donor car!

I'm interested again now!

Why stick Ł8k in an old Escort that will be worth Ł3k or less?

I have been there and sunk money into cars that aren't worth it.

Sell yours and put that with the Ł8k... and get an Evo, a Scoob, Escos, or Skyline... will be far far far better cars and hold value more.

I've already put a hell of a lot more than Ł8k into it and it doesn't even have an engine So I'm really not worried about resale values

I just want to do something different, and already have a Monaro VXR as a "sensible" peformance car.

I'm only having a Wortech Performance Pac upgrade fitted to the Monaro and it stops there!

All I wanted was a 6 month old performance car with the remainder of the warranty left to run...

I'm confused... one minute you are clearly a man with taste and petrol in his veins the next you seem to be a blinkered crazy fool with a sad deluded fetish for shit Escorts?!?!?!

Evo transmission is ideal for transverse mounted 4wd.

Makes more sense to use the engine too though, as it bolts straight to it.

May as well use the uprights and brakes and suspension etc though while you are at it, rather than trying to put together shafts to join it to escort stuff.

Then it makes sense to use the shell as it has the right mounting points etc.

So just buy an evo and put an escort badge on it, job done

Cheers Chip

Porkie, I am sad, deluded and have a fetish for shit old Escorts Only thing is it won't be slow. If I have to stick with FWD, I don't want any more than 300BHP, If, however, I can get a seriously good 4wd system working in it, I'd want double that...

Not blinkered though, I have a Ford, a BMW and a Vauxhall (or Holden with Vauxhall badges if you prefer)

Thats whats missing on here. Everyone just does what the forum seems to think is the right choice. Hell, it's your car, do whatever you want to enjoy it.

Some people on here will slag you off for spending that kind of money on an old ford escort, but then, lots of people throw 60k at old ford sierras and thats deemed normal, and a wise way to spend the cash

If it was me, I'd just buy an EVO. But then, I'm scottish, and tight....

They'll all LOVE it when your finished anyways
